I still say, as I did downstairs, that it gives a clear message to the males that it’s “ok” when the “standard bearer” of breaking the glass ceiling for women says this is “ok” and just “having fun”. That, IMHO, set back our fight against sexism a couple more decades (sigh)…..

When did Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton say this was okay? Do you have a source, a quote you can cite by her? If not, it’s rumor.

She didn’t respond directly… but her spokesperson did. This was the reply, I guess… I’ve seen other places where it states that the reply was that this is all in good fun, but I didn’t see that… I HAVE seen this reply in various places though:
***
“Hottie 27-year-old chief speechwriter for Obama, Jon Favreau, acted inappropriately with a cardboard cut-out of Hillary Clinton at a party (HE GROPED IT) and it ended up on Facebook and now everyone’s talking about the golden boy gone douche. What if it leads him to not get his White House appointment, now that Hillary is Secretary of State? He already sent an apology to the Clinton camp, for the crime of posing in photographs where he’s “dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of secretary of state-designate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, and another where he’s placed his hand on the cardboard former first lady’s chest while a friend is offering her lips a beer,” as the Washington Post put it. Come on, dude’s 27—you have to take the good with the bad. And God knows what kind of hours ol’ Obama has him working.
Clinton senior adviser Philippe Reines cast the photos as evidence of increased bonhomie between the formerly rival camps.
“Senator Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon’s obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application,” he said in an e-mail.
Ex-Radar online editor Alex Balk’s response to that: “Holy crap, did Philippe Reines just say something that was actually funny and showed evidence of a sense of humor on the Clinton team’s part? Because we might want to write down the date if so.”

KarenWI 12.06.08 at 5:16 pm
To state that… and NOT criticize it as sexist… but just make a joke about it is what I mean. It’s a message to the men that this is ok. Hillary has not- to my knowledge- retracted that statement ““Senator Clinton is pleased to learn of Jon’s obvious interest in the State Department, and is currently reviewing his application” nor made any additions to it. That says volumes to men who would grope women – that Hillary hasn’t complained about it, nor criticized them, nor called it sexist. But, rather, “enjoyed” it enough to make a joke out of it… so, not her directly, but her spokesperson with no changes made from her personally about it. Therefore, if she doesn’t change what her spokesperson said, it’s taken as from her.

I just posted a comment on Campbell Brown’s article on Clinton and that jerk Jon Favreau.
The article was dated yesterday. It said “no comments yet.” Strange. Over 24 hours and no comments? So, I submit my comment and it said it is in moderation and that not all comments are posted.
THAT DOES HAPPEN SOMETIMES. DON’T SPEND A LOT OF ENERGY ON CNN, AND KEEP A COPY OF ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT TO POST ELSEWEHRE.
Earlier today, the NY Times had an OpEd from Ayers. There were over 240 comments and the Times only posted “8″ of the 240. They were called the “Editor’s Choice” or words to that effect.
I HAVEN’T BEEN THERE, BUT USUALLY WHERE THERE’S AN ‘EDITORS’ CHOICE’ THERE ARE ALSO LINKS TO THE REST OF THE COMMENTS.

turndownobama… I agree it was a sarcastic remark. HOWEVER, it didn’t really give indication of being angry with the groping… or seeing it as sexist. Sarcasm isn’t a very appropriate way of dealing with sexist pigs unfortunately. The sarcasm goes right over their tiny little heads. You’ve gotta be blunt and hit right right where it hurts with it or it isn’t going to be taken very seriously…. and that is what Hillary and her spokesperson did NOT do- which, IMHO gives more “fuel” to the sexist pigs and sets back the anti-sexism movement a couple decades.

Isn’t it clear that ‘application to State Dept under review’ MEANS that he would NOT be hired at the State Dept — and by implication, should not be hired at the White House?
This is very serious: it’s saying that Obama should fire him.

KarenWI 12.06.08 at 5:56 pm
No.. that isn’t clear to me turndownobama… “under review” doesn’t mean an automatic turndown to me I guess. ====================================
That is what happens when we write privately to the guilty camp. We need to make our protests PUBLICALLY, by posting at news sites or perhaps doing petitions that get news coverage — or doing stunts of our own with cutouts of Obama, Michelle, etc et.
This is a very simple clear issue that reflects on OBAMA’s JUDGEMENT in hiring this speechwriter to supervise things at the White House. We can call on Obama for specific action: fire the groper. It lends itself to Alinsky tactics: isolate Obama and/or groper, ricicule them, etc.
We should make news media focus on how many of us are protesting and how clever our protests are. Don’t let them divert the focus to the Campbell Brown types who are criticizing Hillary!
Circulate some images like this with the victims Margaret Thatcher, BEnezier Bhutto (yes, she’s already assassinated), Golda Meier, etc. Or Queen Noor or other current Middle East women. Is this an example of his diplomacy?
Go to news media that are printing “Obama’s Radio/Video Address for December 6.” that have comments up (none have yet) and ask if this was written by the FAcebook Groper, and when Obama plans to fire him. Do this on all major Obama quotes.

I am actually SICK OF HILLARY. SICK OF HER. YOU HEARD ME…..I will say it AGAIN. I AM SICK OF HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON.
She is working WITH and FOR the MISOGYNIST. I don’t care if MURPHY and DANCES pounds me for this but I’m OVER HER. SOS is a dirty lil’ job and it is especially dirty when you work for SCUMBAG MISOGYNIST LIARS.
YES. YES. SHE SHOULD DEMAND SOMETHING, but she CANNOT. SHE CANNOT do a GOD DAMN THING because she is WORKING FOR HIM. GET IT. DO YOU ACTUALLY GET IT. I HOPE YOU DO. BECAUSE THIS IS BECOMING SICKENING.
Yes, of course, I cry and I still love the OLD Hillary, but she ain’t the old Hillary. And PUMA is going to have to god damn figure out what we want to do…and fucking worshipping her old ways is not what I want to do with my time.
Instead of discussing HILLARY, I say lets FUCKING ATTACK this man AND HIS BOSS….NOBAMA. Let’s call the NAACP, NOW, NARAL, THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT AND THE MSM and go full force….
and let’s stop talking about Hillary. Let her be. Period. She may come back to us, but right now she is his.

Show Michell eating at the Hotel a $467 dinner and people asking why she would spend that on herself .Put your arms around her chest and telling her to puke it up because of all the starvation in the USA.Make her look stupid.

In that vein, post MO’s comment that the last $600 rebate would buy a nice set of earrings.
Or even better, that BO’s extra 30 million could go to Hillary’s debt and damages/
Or how about that 151 million dollar discrepancy between FEC report and BO’s posted contributions.
Or….you list um.

Someone earlier was making the joke that we should be asking the cutout of Hillary why she was asking for it, playing with these guys emotions, leading them on, etc.
sandipuma 12.06.08 at 9:27 pm
One good 1 would be someone holding a cutout of Chris Matthews and saying i peed my pants when Obama was running and i think i’m in love with him or was it the money he paid me to bash all women with my hate. Then someone with a cutout of Obama in front of them and Obama saying now Chris just keep doing what you were told to do then have A cutout of Michell whipping them bothe saying i’m the boss here and i hate this country. The more we do to get the news to see and here us.
KarenWI 12.06.08 at 9:30 pm
IMHO Hillary is a consumate career politician… which means nothing matters to her as much as her political career. Right now that means hanging onto Obama’s coattails. If Obama loses popularity it would mean slitting his throat. During the Primary I thought that maybe she was a cut above the “normal” career politician… but since she sided with O I started seeing her in a new light; and now this episode even more so. I think that, like most politicians (including “The One”) they, themself, are the center of the universe… and, if doing good for themself will ALSO help US that’s a plus… but #1 is their own political career.
sandipuma 12.06.08 at 9:32 pm
Hillary is a brilliant woman and so is Sarrah but what i am getting at here is to show everyone we are not taking this sexism anymore. We need to do it through the internet and the news

taggles1 12.06.08 at 9:34 pm
No, Karen she is just like every other male politician out there, be frickin proud! why are you holding her to a different standard.
Get over it.
Hillary is Hillary, she is not you, she is not me, she is not us, she is not bill, she is not chelsea. She is Hillary.
Stop judging her through such a narrow lense.
KarenWI 12.06.08 at 9:34 pm
Maybe that’s why I like Palin. She seems to not have the “career politician” about her- yet. She’s still too recent from being a “hockey mom at the PTA” and still remembers what it was like to NOT be a politician. The day she forgets what it was like, and just goes “career politician” like all the rest, will be the day I am just as disappointed in her…. I’m looking for someone who hasn’t been brainwashed by Washington yet… right now the closest to that is Palin- and being a female is a huge plus too for me!

So may perpetrators of this kind of assault on women seem to have it in their pea-size-brains that we actually ENJOY their “attention”! …or so it seems. I can’t help but think that if the attackee doesn’t let them attacker know in clear English that they do NOT think this was enjoyable, OR a joke, they aren’t going to “get the point”. IF, on the other hand, the attackee begins the “assault” on the attacker, and THEN the rest of us back her up in wave after wave of more “ground assults” MAYBE… just MAYBE… it might sink into those pea brains that this ISN’T right…?

Who the fuck gave you the right to decide what was right or wrong for Hillary Clinton.
That is YOUR opinion. NOT a FACT!
TrishfromCanada 12.06.08 at 9:53 pm
hey everyone
been reading the blog off and on today and i don’t know whether to laugh or cry about the comments here.
I think a few here need to step back and think about what you are really fighting for and what do YOU want to acheive from that fight.
do you even know who you are fighting, because it sounds to me like you are fighting Sen. Clinton and whoaaaa no one has yet produced a direct quote from her regarding the pigs and her cutout. Yet, some of you have bashed her to hell and back for 1. comments she supposedly made and 2. comments she never made, and 3. comments you want her to make. Take her off your pedestals please, its not a safe place to put anyone.
Also, seeing opinions are flying around here like the wind, i’m going to add mine. Women are the worst at being hard on women, and some of you here are just plain nasty in your attacks on women, and out there is the physical, 3 demensional world (the one that exists off this blog for those unsure of which world i’m talking about) women eat other women alive everyday. Every damn day a woman wants to be better than another woman, and in my opinion that is another form of sexism that needs to be defeated.
We se eenough of it in the workforce and in our casual lives, why must it be here on this blog. It goes with that saying take care of your own back yard before you start craping in your neighbours. Well, we need to stop the negativity against Sen. Clinton and other women before we can expect others to follow suit. And its not any prettier when we trash her or when Bo’s camp trashes her.
I still have tremendous respect for Sen. Clinton, as a woman and a mother and a senator and a wife and an American. Each of these and more make up who she is, who she was and who she will be. And regardless of her situation right now (which by the way I’m not privy to know the details off, as I don’t meet with her and get her view on things, kudos to those of you who act as though you are privy to that info) I still respect her.

Some of you get my take, and some don’t. I am saying–and it is my opinion and just that–that I DON”T WANT TO TALK ABOUT HILLARY ANY MORE. This may or may not be ‘throwing her under the bus’ (in my opinion, it is not) BUT WHAT IT IS IS REFORMING THE QUESTION AND THE ATTACK!!
INSTEAD OF ASKING HILLARY WHAT SHE IS GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS BULLSHIT, LET’S ASK THE FUCKING MEN. LET’S ASK ACLU, NAACP, NOW, and NARAL. LEAVE HILLARY ALONE is not exactly a condemnation people, but rather a plea.
What if, like Dances suggests, we have stop having sex with men AND we stop discussing Hillary Clinton. Let’s deal with issues, and assholes, and forget about her for a while. And I agree with Trish, what men do or don’t do is has fucking little to do with Hillary–so leave her outa it.
I like Sandi’s idea a lot. Let’s make an image of His Lowness and have some women (how about Oppie and Brazilla) molesting his lower half….and send it on….let’s fight the boys with bullets they understand…
And when I throw a woman under the bus you will know it, and I’m not throwing Hillary under the bus, but putting her in the closet. Big difference.

If Jon Favreau was applying to work at the state department, then Hillary would have every right to evaluate his appropriateness to the position. But he works for Obama and it’s Obama’s headache. Does Obama want a speechwriter who has contempt for the state department? Contempt for women? Does he want a White House where everybody is at everybody’s throats all the time? Who knows. If I was Mr. Favreau I would not want to be spending the next 4 years hanging around the White House waiting for the other shoe to drop.

coddling any women makes us weak…
1 in 3 girl children has been sexually assaulted…
that means most of us… all this sexist misogynist bullshit is restimulating painful memories for most of us… sitting around doing nothing about it, not that we’re adults… means we’re perpetrating against ourselves… it’s like internalized rape… except you don’t need an external perpetrator because youre re-assaulting yourself.

I was thinking the same then thought, no, i’m going to stay and become more active and call people on their bullshit about Sen. Clinton and demand facts and not rumours. The more of us that do that the less bashing that will happen. Wanna stick around and help? Taggles and Dances are already demanding sources for rumours, I’m settling in and going to help.

You’re right Trish, Taggles and Dances. I get so tired of it and feel like I am hitting my head against the wall, but making folks come up with the facts instead of letting the spin grow is a better idea. Thanks for setting me straight!

Karen I am not attacking you. I am having a debate, although heated, a debate none the less.
You are quite opinionated, so am I.
I will admit that I do like to add in a few swears for exclamation, that is all.
jenniforhillary 12.06.08 at 10:26 pm
I can easily take Karen’s side her and neither be sexist or condescending.
Hillary Rodham Clinton is one of the most powerful women in the world. She should be able to speak out about sexism, especially when it involves her. In fact, instead of being able perhaps she should HAVE to speak out, because if not her, than who.
okay….how is this statement wrong?
KarenWI 12.06.08 at 10:27 pm
taggles…. I do NOT understand you…. WHERE am I saying that Hillary is a pox on all women? I think you are reading far more “Hillary attack” into what I posted than what I actually said, or meant. The only thing I was saying.. and will say again.. is that ANYONE in a position of authority needs to set the example. If a woman is in a position of authority to advance women, then they are “role models” for younger women watching them, and need to “set the example” to follow. That goes for Condi, Peloski, Hillary…. and all women “setting the pace” for women in positions of authority. Is that wrong? If so I will be quiet…
jenniforhillary 12.06.08 at 10:28 pm
I want to LOVE her and hate her actions from Denver on. I want to admire her and move beyond her. I want to thank her, and hold her to a higher standard. I want her back, because I don’t like the new her.

As far as I understand it, PUMA has been (since the selection was done) talking about how to MOVE women up the evolutionary line to HUMAN before 2050.
Puma is NOT the Worship Hillary Blog…..and if it is someone please let me know and I will move on myself…
—————
I have to admit I was a little shocked when Murphy playfully asked me if I was your sockpuppet the other day. You and I do agree on disliking that One, but how you feel about Hillary betraying your hopes is not at all how I feel. To think that a women being picked for Sec of State is the handmaiden of Obama and not a damn hard job that Hillary wanted………..is only your own thought. She should be President, no doubt of that, not one part of me will ever forget what Obama did to her but Hillary can do a Hell of a lot of good for all of us as SoS and I respect her enough to not demand my donations back nor degrade what she is going or felt she had to do in the election. I can relate to her and I admire her……………..worship is an insult that is degrading. Please don’t stay that to people that feel differently than you do and still have respect for our choices.
TrishfromCanada 12.06.08 at 10:29 pm
jenniforhillary,
I believe we all deserve the right to critique women, when there is reason to critique them. it’s all about balance, since the SOS talk prior to thanksgiving no one has produced anything factual to show what was on Sen Clinton’s mind. It’s all been rumour and that’s where the biggest issues lay.

Dear Ms. Terreberry:
Thank you for contacting me. I appreciate hearing from you.
According to Article I, Sections 2 and 3 of the Constitution, any person serving in the United States House of Representatives must have reached the age of twenty-five and must have been a citizen of the United States for at least seven years, and any person serving in the United States Senate must have reached the age of thirty and must have been a citizen of the United States for at least nine years. In addition, Article II, Section 1 mandates that a person must have reached the age of thirty-five and be a natural born citizen in order to serve as President of the United States.
As you mentioned, some reports have surfaced that my former colleague, President-Elect Barack Obama, is not a natural-born American citizen. These reports are false. Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawai’i. His birth certificate is a matter of public record of the State of Hawai’i and is available online through various news sources, as well as on the Web site for the nonpartisan, nonprofit Annenberg Political Fact Check: http://www.factcheck.org. I hope you find this information useful.
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. For more information about my work for Nevada, my role in the United States Senate Leadership, or to subscribe to regular e-mail updates on the issues that interest you, please visit my Web site at http://reid.senate.gov. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
My best wishes to you.
Sincerely,
A

Billie Jo,
I admire you spirit, and your passion. Women could really use your talents, and if you broaden your focus beyond Hillary you could be terrific. Truly terrific.
taggles1 12.06.08 at 10:35 pm
I think it is wrong, Karen. What would have happened if Hillary came out and made a statement and took a stand on sexism with this. Even you, earlier, agreed this is something she could not do.
What was her choice?
I have not heard you hold Obama to the same standard and he is the one who is hiring the guy who is simulating groping on on the future Secretary of State.
We must be the ones to demand it. Not Hillary, she is the victim, she is the one who cannot for many reasons make an issue of this.
And just because you are a much better person than her and might make another choice, does not mean Hillary is wrong or less righteous than you.

Exactly! We should be advocates for her and speak out about this sexist assault on her and all the women she represents in America. It is pointless to vilify her for not doing what some of us would expect. We are not her and do not know what she is going through.

I had a friend drop by this site and wonder why I felt so highly about it because she felt it was a bit wacky. Personally, If these very deep and old issues can be addressed…expressed…. It is an invaluable forum…which is non-existent anywhere else….esp for what many of us are feeling…particularly, if we have no place to express it….are taking blows regularly in the real world with our loved one’s and friends.
Such things will never be neat and tidy…but they may well be revolutionary.
I like a quote by Frederick Douglass…”Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are men (women) who want rain without thunder and lightening”……….
Having said that….kindness and intelligence do not have to be at odds…the fusion is wisdom. We are growing in our identity as pumas right now.

And then I emailed it to everyone in my email address as if I were shocked, that now he was groping Michelle.

Sandi – funny I was just thinking yesterday..after watching Oprah saying that Sarah Palin was talking to Greta, Larry King and Matt Lauer etc but not talking to her. Her deameanor saying this was like one of disbelieve. Like I dare anyone to not talk to me. We should write to Team Sarah and tell them to have a campaign to urge Sarah Palin NOT talk to Oprah.
I believe we give power to Oprah and she has used it blindly to throw it behind race and against women. Someone needs to stand up and tell her that yes, she doesn’t own everyone and that someone is Sarah Palin. She needs to put Oprah in her place and yes, there is someone in this world that might not want to talk to you, Oprah. Sleep on that and sleep on your big hair !!

Ronan,
I can’t speak for all Pumas, but having been here from the beginning, a great many of us females seem to have been abused by men at some point in our lives and many more of us are intensely aware and resentful of those around them who have been abused. The blatant sexism against Hillary was the catalyst that brought most of us here.
Therefore, as much as I wish we could just set these things aside and be a bastion of unbridled political action, I understand that, at times, we will inevitably push each others’ buttons. I only wish that we have the wisdom to realize when it has gone on too long and begins sapping the spirit from this site.

But, damn, people!!! Our country is on the verge of Depression/Destitution. Last month, alone, more than half a million (522,000) people lost their jobs. No bailout for them nd I bet everyone here knows people who have lost their jobs and/or can’t find one.
Why aren’t we screaming outrage at Congress over this bogus, auto industry ripoff bailout? And more so, the AIG swindle?
All those execs who make the millions of dollars bonuses are still driving Ferrari’s and partying hardy.
And how much is going to get blown on the inauguration/Coronation?

No job for you
I’ve been waiting for Krugman’s reaction to the unemployment figures, which were worse than even he suspected. Here it is. He points out that the official number does not count the many who have given up on searching for a job.
The chart above shows the employment-population ratio, the ratio of employed Americans to the adult population. By this measure it’s been a weak economy all along — and now it’s falling off a cliff.
It’s almost as though Obama is being set up. The real job losses will hit in January. At that time, people who now suddenly find themselves without employment will also start to lose unemployment benefits — and their homes. The present insecurity will, by February, become the sort of panic that scars a national pscyhe forever.
Also: Gas prices are quite low right now. Will they start creeping up after January 20?
Bottom line: Six-to-ten months from now, Republican propagandists may be in a position to craft a false but persuasive narrative which will picture the Dubya years as the Good Old Days.

These are interesting times – everywhere you look, in every direction, there’s an abyss instead of light. Except for the usual stupids (though more numerous than ever), this present society is damn sophisticated. A lot of people have been making money (more or less honestly) – when there has been money – without having regular, old-fashioned jobs. Really, now you can relocate online (RelOkies). I watched the brilliant Bound For Glory last week, I expect a lot of organizing and co-operation. I expect that (except for the stupids) most people will realize that organizing and co-operating is all we have to avoid catastrophic self-destruction. Rich people are starting to say they’ll pay more taxes (because it’s cheaper than the security they’ll need). We’re ripe and ready for the change from greedy selfishness to secular sharing. Naomi Klein came ever-so-close to calling this meltdown the progressive’s Pearl Harbor. What she said is, “This is a progressive moment: it’s ours to lose.”

Or was it something more? Did the Republicans throw this election away to an over confident DNC and to ‘the one’ with the biggest ego in the world.
I made the comments that follow over on another blog a few weeks ago. I will put it out there again for what it is worth. I have made a few changes and updates to my original post elsewhere.
I have been thinking for some time that the Republicans and Karl Rove just pulled a gigantic rope-a-dope on Democrats this year.
Start with Obama’s seed money even before the primary – largely from Republicans and lots of Bush Rangers. Also look at Donna Brazille’s chummy friendship and advice from Karl Rove this year. Look at the huge numbers of Republicans that crossed over and voted for him during the primary, some even in the general. (Although some of that was most likely moderate Repubs disenchanted with Bush as well.) And look at the number of Republicans who worked on Obama’s campaign. If you look all through his campaign there were Republicans always with the Obama team some where, some how.
I used to think it was just to defeat Hillary and nominate the weaker candidate. Now I think it may have been some thing more, something far more sinister. (And I am not into conspiricy stuff. Like I believe Oswald acted alone.)
I think Republicans knew this would be a tough year to win given Bush’s low approval rate. I also think they knew the economy was going to fall sooner rather than later. So did they throw it? Was McCain their sacrificial lamb?
And look also at how many Republicans sat home this year and did not vote at all. And where were those 527’s?
Lose this time round after ensuring the most egotistical, inexperienced, and unqualified Dem candidate was nominated and then just hammer him for two years because they know that the economy will not improve over the short run and they can gain seats and the Presidency when hope and change has failed and voters blame Obama and the Dems, as they will?
IF the Dems were smart and knew how to think STRATEGICALLY they would have let McCain win because no matter who was elected this time round, they were destined to be a one-term President. That was one of the chief reasons I voted for McCain. Then the Dems could step in with Hillary and win in 2012, as well as usher in 30+ years of Dem power.
I see 2008/2009 as analogous to 1929 when Hoover was elected. He too was destined to be a one-termer. And Hoover’s mistakes ushered in 30+ years of FDR and his legacy and his policies. Repubs have wanted to kill that for years. What better way than letting Obama be the NEW Hoover and the Repub candidate the new ‘FDR’ in 2012. A fox in sheeps clothing.
I can see Rove and the Republicans hatching a plan like this. On election night Kristol and Rove did not seem that upset. In fact, they had smirky little smiles playing around the corners of their mouths just like the cat that has just eaten the bird. When Obama’s policies make things worse, Repubs can come back and install a very conservative agenda and get rid of what’s left of FDR policies, thanks to the stupidity and egotism of Obama, Pelosi, Dean, et. al.
As I said, ROPE-A-DOPE.

Well said, Joseph. The only firms which may do very well in the next six months are the ones selling alcohol.
I am not sure the Republicans deliberately caused this disaster. (And I don’t think you are implying that they did, but please correct me if I am reading your post incorrectly.) They wanted to loot a lot of money (by passing hidden risks off to others without regulation) and would have loved to do so indefinitely. And Democrats did not help the situation by blocking regulation of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. But I do think some, like Karl Rove, foresaw a very bad time coming and decided to help advance the weakest, least experienced Democratic candidate in history, while sabotaging a Republican he dislikes and helping to defeat the Democratic Party’s best candidate in years, Senator Clinton.
He must be a very happy man.
Now most Republicans can’t put the country first and try to make it better, because then a Democratic President would get the credit. But I think the situation is even worse than they realized and maybe worse than they think it is, even now. I wonder how it will affect their personal finances.

On setting Obama up:
I said the same thing on Lion’s Share/PumaPac Radio when I was co-hosting it some weeks ago, and was pooh-poohed.
Adding to bert in ohio’ points:
- The USSC siding with the Dems on NOT checking the legitimacy of new voter registrations in Ohio;
- The judge dismissing Berg’s case on the grounds that it’s not the place of citizens to police the Constitution (true, but misleading – it’s the courts’ job, but citizens go to them);
- McCain not trying very hard to win (e.g. where were the devastating ads combining “I would do it again” Ayers with “God Damn America” Wright?);
- The mysterious way that Obama seemed to know *exactly* what McCain was going to say in the debates ahead of time;
- The Republican-owned MSM not turning on Obama after knocking out Hillary for certain (i.e sometime post-Convention;
- The subprime meltdown occurring almost exactly when Obama needed it (to within a few days).
I think the fact of the setup is pretty obvious, so – again on PUR – I moved to the why:
1) Blaiming Obama – and by association the Dems – for the mess, or;
2) Obama is easier is push around/manipulate/bribe/etc. than McCain, or;
3) Retaking Congress in 2010, then impeaching Obama for any or all of a number of things -campaign finance, caucus fraud, taking bribes, ineligibility for Pres., etc.
…or some combination of the three.

The one person in the U.S. who has extra cash
I urge you to read this superbly-written post by Riverdaughter. One of her final points surprised me:
If Barack Obama’s campaign ended up with a surplus, why am I *still* getting email from Bill and Dorothea Rodham asking me to help pay off Hillary’s debts? This is inexcusable. Hillary Clinton worked her ass off for Barack Obama during the general. Pay off her damn debts, you fricking Simon Le Gree!
It is amazing to me that you will still find Cheetoheads who find fault with the way Hillary funded her campaign, and yet they feel perfectly fine about both the amount of money raised by Obama and the downright crooked way he raised it — through untraceable internet contributions and donors who repeatedly gave far more than allowed by law. If a Republican had funded his campaign in exactly the same way, how would the Kossacks have reacted?
By the way, here’s Campbell Brown refusing to criticize Jon Favreau for his behavior in that instantly-infamous photo. Instead, Campbell chooses to go after — you guessed it — Hillary Clinton.
Hey Campbell: Remember that heartburn you got last week? Clinton did that. And remember the dog poop you stepped in a month ago? Clinton was walking her pooch there. Good thing Hillary will be at State, where she cannot worsen the economic crisis that she single-handedly created or the Global Warming crisis she and her husband engineered with their Tesla weather control devices.

Honestly, I thought I would never stop crying. Just reading your words brings back the denver vote, and I can’t stop crying.
My problem is that my intuition tells me something is not good, and my intuition is never wrong. never.
that being said, if wishing alone could have made her president. if tears could change the world, and if one girl in texas could have sacrificed ANYTHING that woman would be president. And that is the type of change we needed, and I don’t have any hope left in me. I have plenty of fight, but no hope.
And I am tough, but I am sensitive. I will never stop fighting, but don’t be surprised if I am crying as I hold that sign and march alone. But give up, nope. never.

Obama’s Online Legions Get to Pick Their Next Role
more in Politics »By CHRISTOPHER RHOADES
More than a month after a millions-strong organization helped get Barack Obama elected president, the question remains what role that massive online force will play in actually governing.
The answer depends on the wishes of members of the grass-roots organization, said the campaign’s new-media team on Friday, in its first public appearance since the election.
“Whatever comes next will come from” the members, said Joe Rospars, who headed the new-media operations for the Obama campaign and now consults for the transition team, at a conference in New York.
Barack Obama
It’s far easier to rally around getting someone elected than the messier task of running a government, where once like-minded individuals can easily disagree. To help with that tricky next step, David Plouffe, the Obama-Biden campaign manager, on Thursday evening emailed the organization, estimated at 13 million strong, asking it to attend or host house parties across the country on Dec. 13 and 14. The goal, according to the email, is to get more input on what members would like to see happen — and no doubt to make it clear that the president-elect hasn’t forgotten them.
“Barack and Joe have a clear agenda and an unprecedented opportunity for change,” Mr. Plouffe wrote. “But they can’t do it alone. Will you join us at a house meeting and help plan the next steps for this movement?”
There are few, if any, precedents for a U.S. president coming into office with such an organization — what the new administration prefers to call a “movement.” Other presidents have won office with effective get-out-the-vote organizations, such as President George W. Bush, but those voters weren’t part of a well-organized, grass-roots group expecting to play a continuing role in the new government. In addition, the Obama organization depended greatly on its innovative use of new technology, including social-networking Web sites.
The transition team has given some hint of how it might incorporate the views of the public. On the transition team’s Web site, change.gov, the new administration hosted for several days an online discussion on health care, soliciting around 10,000 entries from users. Earlier this week, former Sen. Tom Daschle, appointed the new administration’s health czar, then responded in a short video.
“The administration is showing that listening is more important than talking,” said Andrew Rasiej, co-founder of TechPresident, a group studying the intersection of technology and politics. “This is a good first step in validating the public getting involved in their government.”
Those who have agreed to host the events in their homes will receive a DVD from the transition team with instructions on how to conduct the conversation. The events follow an email from Mr. Plouffe last month with a detailed survey asking about the recipients’ most important issues and their willingness to work on them.
For legal and privacy reasons, Mr. Obama probably could not use the list of names in the White House. What’s more, the volunteers signed up for a specific campaign, not to help run the government. That consideration also makes folding the list into the database of the Democratic National Committee undesirable.
Some volunteers aren’t waiting for any guidance from the new administration. Constance Squire, an Obama volunteer, has refocused her new organizing skills and relationships from the campaign toward intervening in the hundreds of home foreclosures near her Madison, Wis., home. Together with about a dozen volunteers, many of them Obama campaign veterans, the 38-year-old professor is locating the homes on a Google map and then organizing groups to protest the removal of the inhabitants.
“I realized it’s not very hard to get out there and effect change,” she said.

I just read that hit piece of Campbell’s trashing Hillary. It seem she doesn’t get that BO is Hillary’s new boss and Hillary is a team player. Hillary hires for the state department and Obama hires for his own speech writing team. Campbell should be trashing Favraeu and Obama.
It’s time to echo what Murphy said in Denver:
Thanks, Hillary.

Your schtick is predictable, mountainsong. My words mean nothing compared to Obama’s lack thereof.
Obama is approving of the groping of his wife and daughters by allowing this date-rape jokester to remain as his head speechwriter. I didn’t make light of groping or hire a date-rape approving frat boy. That’s all on Jon and Barack, and yes, it is a slap in the face of Obama’s wife and little girls.
It’s too bad he feels they’re no better than hunks of female flesh, but unless he stands up for all women, he’s essentially approving future frat boys groping those little girls.
All on him.

I got an idea. Obama is going to be on Meet the Press tomorrow. We need to get Tom B to ask Obama why he has not released his grades, medical records.
…//
=========
One of the things people haven’t much considered about medical record and school transcripts etc. is that they often contain information about the person’s citizenship, origins, etc. So if BO wants to continue the absolute blackout on his NBC status, he needs to keep those other records in the dark, too, no matter how innocuous they might be.

I will doubtless draw fire from some Hillary supporters for this, but I just sent her this message: So Favreau’s vicious simulation of a sexual assault on you, while his cohort forces alcohol down your throat, is “good-natured fun?” What’s good-natured or fun about it? Is that really what you want to tell women and girls? Is that really what you think? I used to think that you were a courageous woman, someone for my daughter to admire and emulate. No more. You stay silent when you should speak, and when you do speak, you say exactly what our male-dominated, women-hating culture wants to hear. Would you consider a similar depiction of Obama, except possibly featuring a noose around his neck, “good-natured fun?” Because what Favreau did is every bit as vicious and hateful and inexcusable as a racist photo would be. And what did you do? You excused it. I am so ashamed of you, if I had any tears left, I would sob like a broken-hearted child.//

Hillary will be blamed for something and be out in less than six months. The same people who were behind her getting bad press during the Primary are doing it again. The same people who ridiculed Sarah Palin are at it again.
Guess who is behind it? Team Obama using his speech writer who gives talking points and Axelrod. They send out the messages and the rumors.
This guy came up with “yes we can”. Shoot. How can we out do that? How about No you cannot. You cannot treat every woman with disregard. You cannot rape the economy and get away with it. You cannot make us a socialist nation. You cannot make us believe in you because you say we should. You cannot impose your beliefs on us because you want to take our money to make a name for yourself in world politics. You cannot take away our money, our homes, our economy and our rights. Sure we let it happen right before our eyes when we thought that good people were trying to do good things but now we know you are bad people doing very bad things and we will not support you.
ACORN is not good. MOVEON is not good. NOW is not good. HUFFINGTON POST is not good. SALON is not good. NYT is not good. Time is not good. NBC is not good. CBS is not good. Even the internet is not good thanks to google.
Too many people wnat to be at the top while holding down the rest of the world and I am sick of it. The evidence is all there. If they did not mean to be on the top and take down the rest then they would not be demeaning Hillary and Palin and every woman on this earth.
We have at tops, two years to get our money and get out. Or we can decide to stick in there and fight to make sure that there are the right kind of changes happening in the U.S.

HISTORICAL BREAKTHROUGH – PROOF: CHESTER ARTHUR CONCEALED HE WAS A BRITISH SUBJECT AT BIRTH
December 6, 2008 6:36 PM
[I have collaborated on this with my sister and historian Greg Dehler, author of "Chester Allan Arthur", Published by Nova Science Publishers, Incorporated, 2006 ISBN 1600210791, 9781600210792 192 pages. ]
I’ve been forwarded the actual naturalization record for William Arthur on microfiche, obtained from the Library of Congress. He was naturalized in New York State and became a United States citizen in August 1843.
Chester Arthur perpetrated a fraud as to his eligibility to be Vice President by spreading various lies about his parents’ heritage. President Arthur’s father, William Arthur, became a United States citizen in August 1843. But Chester Arthur was born in 1829. Therefore, he was a British Citizen by descent, and a dual citizen at birth, if not his whole life.
He wasn’t a “natural born citizen” and he knew it.
We’ve also uncovered many lies told by Chester Arthur to the press which kept this fact from public view when he ran for Vice President in 1880. Garfield won the election, became President in 1881, and was assassinated by a fanatical Chester Arthur supporter that same year.
How ironic that the allegations started by Arthur Hinman in his pamphlet entitled, “How A British Subject Became President”, have turned out to be true…but not for the reason Hinman suggested.
Hinman alleged that Arthur was born in Ireland or Canada as a British subject. It was bunk. It’s been definitively established that Chester Arthur was born in Vermont. But Hinman turns out to be correct anyway since Chester Arthur was a British citizen/subject by virtue of his father not having naturalized as a United States citizen until Chester Arthur was almost 14 years old.
That means Chester Arthur was a British subject at the time of his birth.
We’ve uncovered news clips exposing a thorough trail of lies, all of which served to obscure Chester Arthur’s true history of having been born as a British citizen.
Chester Arthur’s lies came during his Vice Presidential campaign in 1880. His fraudulent attempt to obfuscate family history provides context and evidence that in 1880 it was recognized that having been born as a British citizen would make one ineligible to be President or VP. His falsification of family history indicates he was aware of POTUS ineligibility.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Chester Arthur was in politics at the time of the 14th Amendment’s ratification. He was a lawyer and a politician while the 14th Amendment was being debated. It was ratified in 1867. In that same year Chester Arthur rose to become chairperson of the Executive Committee of the State Republican Committee. He would have been fully cognizant of the natural born citizen issue and that should he ever run for POTUS or VP, problems could arise.
He would have known that if anybody found out his father naturalized after he was born, he could never be President or Vice President.
CHESTER’S LIES
The definitive biography on Chester Arthur is “Gentleman Boss” by Thomas Reeves. It’s an exhaustive reference. Many of the blanks in Chester Arthur’s legend were filled in by this book which utilized interviews with family members and authentic documents like the Arthur family Bible. It was a necessary work since old Chester Arthur was a very wily protector of his strange history. He burned all of his papers. (See page 2365.)
“Gentleman Boss” establishes, on page 4, that Chester Arthur’s father William was born in Ireland, 1796, and emigrated to Canada in 1818 or 1819. His mother Malvina was born in Vermont and his parents eloped in Canada in 1821. They had their first child, Regina, in Dunham, Canada on March 8, 1822.
By no later than 1824, the Arthur family had moved to Burlington, Vermont. Their second child Jane was born there on March 14, 1824. Chester Arthur was their fifth child, and he was born on October 5, 1829. Reeves established these facts (and the correct date of Chester Arthur’s birth) from the Arthur family Bible.
From “Gentleman Boss”, page 202 and 203:
“…Hinman was hired, apparently by democrats, to explore rumors that Arthur had been born in a foreign country, was not a natural-born citizen of the United States, and was thus, by the Constitution, ineligible for the vice-presidency. By mid-August, Hinman was claiming that Arthur was born in Ireland and had been brought to the United States by his father when he was fourteen. Arthur denied the charge and said that his mother was a New Englander who had never left her native country — a statement every member of the Arthur family knew was untrue.”
Arthur’s mother had lived in Canada with her husband and even had her first child there.
In the Brooklyn Eagle newspaper, an article interviewing Chester Arthur about Hinman’s accusations was published on August 13, 1880. In that article, Chester Arthur defended himself as follows:
“My father, the late Rev. William Arthur, D.D., was of Scotch blood, and was a native of the North of Ireland. He came to this country when he was eighteen years of age, and resided here several years before he was married.”
This was another blatant lie. His father emigrated from Ireland to Canada at the age of 22 or 23. William Arthur didn’t come to the United States until sometime between March 1822 – when his first child was born in Dunham, Canada – and March 1824 – when his second child was born in Burlington, Vermont. The youngest he could have been when he came to Vermont was 26.
On August 16, 1880 Chester Arthur told the Brooklyn Eagle newspaper that at the time of his birth, his father was forty years old. Another blatant lie. His father would have been only thirty-three years old when Chester was born.
In that same article he lied that his father settled in Vermont and reiterated the lie that William came here at the age of eighteen. This age discrepancy was exposed in the August 19, 1880 edition of the Brooklyn Eagle in an article written by Hinman .
It was very convenient for Arthur that Hinman kept the focus on the extraordinary and false claim – that Arthur was born abroad – while the more subtle and true eligibility issue stayed hidden in plain site.
FATEFUL FACTS
I contacted Greg Dehler a few days ago after finding a reference in his Chester Arthur biography which said William Arthur became a citizen in 1843. I wrote to Greg and asked him about the reference. As fate would have it, Mr. Dehler, after checking his notes, wrote back to me to say that he got it from Thomas Reeves’ book, “Gentleman Boss”.
I went to the library the next day and devoured the Reeves book. But the reference to William’s naturalization was not there. Greg also knew I was interested in the Hinman scandal and pointed me to the Brooklyn Eagle search engine from the Brooklyn public library.
I began poking around and discovered a few of the lies mentioned above.
Earlier today I was telling my sister that this matter of Chester Arthur having falsified his parents’ personal history might lead to a very important revision of history. I suggested we put together an outline of a book as we might be able to prove that Chester Arthur was a fraudulent President and that would be quite a story. My sister thought I was jumping the gun a bit in that we really needed to define when William Arthur was naturalized before we could get excited.
About an hour later I received an email from Greg Dehler. I’ll let you read it:
Leo,
Needless to say I was more than a little embarrassed that you could not locate the reference in Reeves. I thought that was odd because my note concerning William Arthur was with the Reeves notes. I conducted a more thorough search and found the source. It was in the Chester A. Arthur Papers (what is left of them at least) at the LOC. I own the microfilm reels and made a copy for you which is attached. The Washington County Clerk in NYS dates it August 31, 1843. How does this affect Chet?
Greg
I almost fell off my chair when I downloaded the William Arthur naturalization PDF and was staring at the shifting sands of history.
Chester Arthur had something to hide.
He had all of his papers burned which was very odd for a President.
Arthur lied about his mother’s time in Canada. He lied about his father’s time in Canada. He lied about his father’s age plus where and when he got off the boat from Ireland. By obscuring his parents’ personal history he curtailed the possibility that anybody might discover he was born many years before his father had naturalized.
When Chester runs for VP, Hinman comes along essentially demanding to see Chester’s birth certificate to prove he was born in the United States. This causes a minor scandal easily thwarted by Chester, because Chester was born in Vermont…but at the same time, the fake scandal provides cover for the real scandal.
Is this the twilight zone?
William Arthur was not a naturalized citizen at the time of Chester Arthur’s birth, and therefore Chester Arthur was a British subject at birth and not eligible to be Vice President or President.
Chester Arthur lied about his father’s emigration to Canada and the time his mother spent there married to William. Some sixty years later, Chester lied about all of this and kept his candidacy on track. Back then it would have been virtually impossible to see through this, especially since Arthur’s father had died in 1875 and had been a United States citizen for thirty-two years.
And without knowledge of his father’s time in Canada, or the proper timeline of events, potential researchers in 1880 would have been hard pressed to even know where to start.
Reeves proved that Arthur changed his birth year from 1829 to 1830. I don’t know if that would have protected recorded information. It’s another lie. I just don’t know what it means.
Because Chester Arthur covered up his British citizenship, any precedent he might have set that the country has had a President born of an alien father is nullified completely as Chester Arthur was a usurper to the Presidency. He wouldn’t have been on the ticket if it was public knowledge. Nobody knew Arthur was a British subject because nobody looked in the right place for the truth.
And it’s no precedent to follow.

Nothing has beed “given” to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, if anything everything has been stolen from her. She’s faced a tsunami of malevolent treatment since her days as First Lady of the US. She doesn’t owe anyone anything.
As I see it, the benefit of HRC’s non-participation, which would only add another dynamic to the drama with the attention and blame placed on her, is it allows the actions of the miscreant penis-species to speak for themselves, it lays out their rapist-groping-molesting-sexist-misogynist behaviors and lackwitted mentality untampered and bare.

Re Woody and her cat… I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Woody isn’t either lurking permanent or left the group.
There are a LOT of people, good posters, good prowlers- who either left the group who became lurkers. Why? Because they opened their mouth with an opinion or thought or concern or plea and were “jumped”. I know what it’s like. I know that some in here don’t deem some things as “personal attacks” that the “attackee” thinks are personal attacks. Let me give you a little clue here… even on the board here, just reading words and not hearing the inflections, it’s not too difficult to tell when someone using a “f” word (or worse) aimed at you is having a friend-to-friend “hey I love you” time, and when they are doing a “personal attack”. When I post on the board (except for night before last when I poured out some of my history) it seems most of my posts land in one of 2 categories: they are either ignored, or I have someonone jumping down my throat in anger. It gets to the point where you almost wish the posts WERE ignored, because it really DOES get to be wearing after awhile when you hear “f” words and worse aimed at you in anger.
Someone posted here last night about how this group, if it’s going to survive and actually be a powerhouse, MUST be more accepting of others and their thoughts/beliefs. I agree. Think of all of the great posters and great prowlers who you no longer hear from. It is a VERY long list, and it’s going to keep getting longer if this is going to continue. I really like this group…. it means a lot to me. I don’t want to see it become nothing more than a “clique” of people who have to be of 100% like-minds. You see, it’s difficult to find many people who are going to agree with you on EVERYTHING 100%. That’s life. We’re all individuals.
Now, that being said I’ve said my say, and I have no more to say on that subject. So, if you “jump down my throat” about it, you aren’t going to hear a response from me on it- silence in this case doesn’t necessarily mean consent. It just means I don’t want to fight or argue about it. I’m tired of fighting with PUMAS. We need to fight with our enemies, not our friends. …and if the PUMAS are not our friends…. then why are we here????

Comment away. I agree with you. Jenn might know, since she was going to pay the balance for the treatment/surgery.
I friendly-advised her to pay the vet diretcly.

Those who reject “blaming the victim” have a point, a big one, but the other side of the coin is the “role model” onus on prominent people, women included. “From those to whom much is given, much shall be expected.”
=======================
Hillary CANNOT respond to stuff like this. Her camp’s ‘State Dept’ response was already more than most politicians would have given.
If she did respond, she would have no time to do anything else! The bots would keep sending more and more attacks to keep her busy, keep her in the spotlight (Alinsky: isolate, ridicule). Then the Campbell Brown types and others would keep blaming her, whatever she did or did not do.
Attacking stuff like this is OUR job.

Murphy – What the FEC?
You have mail. The attached file is kind of big so I hope it goes through. It is a draft of a final complaint to the FEC about BO’s bad money. It consists of a 2 page letter, a one page summary and 63 pages of details. Feel free to embelish on the letter.
The FEC would like you to send 2 copies and the original. That should come to about 200 pages and I think we should send them all by express mail. I will cover costs with a donation – let me know how much it costs you.
BO has been very bad.

Where’s the “good-natured fun?” quote, Brain H and why hasn’t any one else seen it?
Why is everyone blaming Hillary for having her cardboard cutout groped? Falling into line behind the MSM Hillary haters, anyone?
And did anyone read the same arguments on the above thread?//

Sen. Hillary Clinton is constitutionally ineligible to serve as Secretary of State in the Obama administration, according to the public interest group Judicial Watch.
The Ineligibility Clause of the U.S. Constitution stipulates that no member of Congress can be appointed to an office that has benefited from a salary increase during that Senator or Representative’s current term of office.
A January 2008 Executive Order signed by President George W. Bush during Hillary Clinton’s current Senate term increased the salary for Secretary of State from $186,600 to $191,300.
Specifically, Article I, section 6 of the U.S. Constitution states: “No Senator or Representative shall, during the time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments (salary and benefits) whereof shall have been increased during such time.”
At the 1787 Constitutional Convention there was fear that of members of Congress might create new jobs or give raises to existing jobs, and then take those jobs for themselves.
President Richard Nixon circumvented this provision after appointing Ohio Sen. William Saxbe to the position of Attorney General. The Attorney General’s salary had been increased during Saxbe’s term, but the Nixon administration managed to push legislation through Congress to reduce the salary to its previous level.
This scheme, known thereafter as “The Saxbe Fix,” was also used to allow Sen. Lloyd Bensen to assume the position of Treasury Secretary under President Clinton.
So Hillary will require a “Saxbe Fix” to serve as Secretary of State, according to Judicial Watch. But the group asserts that the tactic “may reduce the salary of Secretary of State to previous levels, but it does not affect what is a clear constitutional prohibition.”

(CHICAGO)(December 8, 2008) Over four years ago I created the anti-Obama movement by disclosing that Barack Obama was lying about his religious heritage. I went on to publish the first questions about Barack Obama’s citizenship (and forced Obama to admit I was right) as well as making a continuing series of disclosures about the man. But I am increasingly concerned that the anti-Obama movement is passing into the hands of fast buck artists such as a corrupt Philadelphia lawyer, Philip Berg, and other con artists or profiteers who do not have any legitimate basis for their inflammatory accusations against Obama.
Con men make it difficult for honest columnists to present legitimate questions about Obama. There is no way I can compete with the litany of lies that is being marketed as “facts” and “law” to a deceived public.
Three basic points:
First, people have a constitutional right to dislike Obama. In our free society no one can tell us who to believe, and who to follow. Every American leader in recent history has also had his rabid opponents. There is nothing new about the militant anti-Obama partisans. Indeed, in a healthy democracy, skeptics keep politicians in line by exposing their lies and shining light on suspicious activity. In principle, I strongly support the anti-Obama movement, because I am one of those skeptics.
Second, Obama has been his own worst enemy in creating doubt and fanning speculation about himself. He is an unknown man. He has secreted his college records from occidental College. He has secreted his records from Columbia University, and he has secreted his records from Harvard Law School. What has oozed to the surface has linked Obama to the most unsavory and anti-American elements in our society. Bill Ayers, anyone? Khalid Al-Mansour, an anti-Semitic, anti-white Black nationalist, has been exposed as someone who raised money to finance Obama’s legal education. What?
Obama refuses to discuss an of these matters.
Obama posted a laser-printed abstract of his birth record on the Internet at FactCheck.org, and falsely portrayed this document as a “copy” of his “original birth certificate.” It was nothing of the sort. But Obama fooled a lot of people with his big lie. Why did he lie, and why did he falsely represent what he was posting? Good question. But by constantly and repeatedly lying, Obama has been the biggest source of suspicion concerning his birth and family history.
Third, the decline of mainstream media (MSM’s) has helped fuel crooks and paranoids on the Internet. Last month in Honolulu I began a nationwide series of “Conversations” about the future of Obama’s opponents. I was surprised by how little was known about Obama, even by his legitimate and sincere opponents. The MSM’s never did their job.
Last month I also exposed a Philadelphia con artist, Philip Berg, who has been issuing increasingly fraudulent claims and making increasingly irrational arguments against Obama. Berg claims to be a “Hillary Clinton supporter, when he is nothing of the sort.
Last week an advertisement ran in the Chicago Tribune challenging Obama’s qualifications for office. There were legitimate questions contained in that ad, as well as gross exaggerations and undocumented accusations. In my opinion, the ad would have been more powerful if it had stuck to the facts, and Obama’s lies, instead of creating a new round of deception and misrepresentation by his opponents.
Who is to separate the wheat from the chaff? Monday, three people who have filed lawsuits against Obama are holding a Washington, DC news conference. Readers and citizens should have a “contrarian” commentary on the three lawyers who are attacking Obama.
First, Philip Berg. As near as I can tell, Berg is a scam artist and nothing more. He filed a crackpot lawsuit to collect money and, one presumes, to put the money in his pocket. I spoke with Mr. Berg before he filed his lawsuit, and advised him his claims were injurious to Obamas legitimate opponents. Berg didn’t care. He just wanted to scream-and ask for money.
Berg filed a paranoid lawsuit in federal court and, as I told him it would be, the case was promptly tossed out. He then filed a notice of appeal to the Court of Appeals and, for good measure, asked the U.S. Supreme Court to cancel the 2008 election. I have lost track of Berg’s wild charges. A few days ago I heard from a woman in Florida who made the paranoid claim that Berg has provided “secret evidence” to the Supreme Court. Yah, sure. People will believe anything. What was her source for the claim about Berg? Directly or indirectly, no doubt Berg himself.
The irony in Berg’s lawsuit and the two which I discuss below is that they are pinning their hopes on Justices Thomas and Scalia. These two judges have done more than anyone else to close down and lock out citizen participation in the judicial system. So are we to assume that judges who have been locking the courthouse doors by issuing restrictive interpretations of “standing to sue” are now suddenly going to reverse themselves and reject the pronouncements of their entire judicial careers? Could happen, of course. But highly unlikely.
Second, there is a lawyer from New Jersey named Leo Donofrio. No one had ever heard of Mr. Donofrio before he popped up and also demanded to stop the 2008 election. Unlike Berg, Donofrio followed the correct legal highway, by petitioning state officials, and then working his way up through the state courts, before filing with the U. S. Supreme Court. There is no question that procedurally, Donofrio has followed the correct path.
But do Donofrio’s claims make sense? Donofrio claims Senator John McCain is not “natural born” because his father was serving in the military when the senator was born. That claim is complete nonsense. Donofrio makes a similar accusation against Obama. If Donofrio had some track record of being either a legal scholar or an recognized advocate, I would look more deeply at his claims. But Donofrio has no track record as an attorney at all. Would you listen to a “surgeon” who was making radical new surgical claims if he had no record of any medical accomplishments? Not many people would.
Finally, there is Alan Keyes and his lawyers in California. I am not an admirer of Alan Keyes. He is a charlatan and huckster who carpet bagged in Illinois and appealed to some right-wing morons in the local Republican Party. Keyes helped elect Barack Obama to the Senate in 2004. In the process, Keyes administered a blow to Illinois Republicans from which they have not yet recovered. “The rest is history.”
But, amazingly, Keyes has the best case of the “DC threesome.” Keyes’ name was on the ballot last month. Undoubtedly he has standing to challenge Obama. Unlike Berg and Donofrio, who are representing themselves, Keyes actually has an independent lawyer who is therefore responsible for filing a meritorious claim at the risk of his own career.
I don’t know a thing about California law, where Keyes’ case was filed, but he is certainly following the outline I presented on a talk radio program last month: people could challenge Obama’s election at state election agencies and thereafter in state courts. Keyes has apparently gone to court on a proper basis. His petition seems to be the most valid, and the most rational, of the three that that are popping up at the Washington news conference on Monday.
But Keyes is also a political profiteer. He uses his political activism to run a very lucrative business. Keyes is not a Republican and he is not even a politician. Rather he uses the political grandstand to merchandise his views for profit, and he makes a very good living at it. It’s a free country, and his activity appears to be legal. So if people who agree with him want to financially support him, that is their right and privilege.
The level of paranoia that these cases are spawning, however, is exploding beyond reason. I spoke to a woman last week who seemed rational. By Friday she was accusing me of hurting Obama’s opponents by telling the truth about them. She was not the first person who told me I should accept lies if they were being spread for a good cause, namely opposition to Obama. I refuse to do so.
Are there questions about Obama’s birth certificate? Indeed there are. I have filed my own lawsuit in the state courts in Hawai’i, the only courts that actually have jurisdiction over Obama’s document, to release the certificate. On October 31st I prompted a big lie from Hawai’i officials: Chiyome Fukino issued a statement on her official state letterhead stating that she had “personally seen and verified…has Senator Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures.”
What do those weasel words mean? She could have an “original birth certificate” confirming he was born in Kenya, as the extremists want to believe. And why is she covering up the original document? The birth certificate is no longer a private document; it is a part of American history. Whether you love or hate Obama, he is now a part of our history, a big part. I have asked the Hawai’i judge in my case not to insult the intelligence of the American people by falsely claming he is protecting Obama’s “privacy.” That’s nonsense.
Interestingly, however, I am the only investigator who has actually filed a lawsuit seeking access in the proper state under the proper court procedures seeking the proper material. That does not guarantee me a win, but it makes my lawsuit in Hawai’i a serious one, in comparison with Berg’s frivolous claims in federal court. Why is no one else seeking the truth in Hawai’i? Maybe they would prefer to peddle their lies. Lies seem to be more profitable. And cheaper to produce.
The latest “lie” is that there is “evidence” that Obama was born in Kenya. If I had a shred of credible evidence that Obama was actually born in Kenya, I would jump on it. And, do you know what? Bad as they are, even the MSM’s would be all over the story. That claim first crossed my desk last spring. But there is not a shred of credible evidence that Obama was born in Kenya.
Over the past few months there has been a bogus operation called the African Press International that has been peddling lies and exaggerations about Obama and-no surprise-they are linked to Philip Berg. http://wwwwakeupamericans-spree.blogspot.com/2008/10/michelle-obama-african-press-update.html
Berg was also the originator of the plan to bombard the Supreme Court with letters. I don’t know how many have been sent, but they would never be helpful to a litigant with a legitimate claim.
People who are not lawyers often misunderstand the “right to petition” clause of the First Amendment. The “right to petition” is not an unlimited right to do what you want where you want with any and all public officials. You can’t just barge into the White House and “petition” the president. Likewise, over the past 200 years Courts have developed procedures for petitioning them. Sending letters to judges is not one of them. Once again, the purveyors of paranoia are misleading the public, by falsely claiming that the “right to petition” allows them to harass judges. It does not.
Over the past four years I have made serious charges or accusations against Obama. They have all proven to be factually accurate. And where my opinions have changed after more research and investigation, I have openly acknowledged that fact. Rather than trying to excite people with lies, I have tried to do exactly the opposite: present the truth so we can have an informed debate on Obama’s limitations and weaknesses.
But in the case of Obama I have constantly been told that lying is the right approach when the truth is not available or inconvenient. The ends justify the means when you are against Obama. I disagree. Berg doesn’t care about truth, facts or credibility. He is using lies as a fund raising mechanism, to exploit the anti-Obama element that is as rabidly and blindly anti-Obama as the “Obamabots” are pro-Obama. I do care about the facts and truth.
Finally, an article in today’s Chicago Tribune helps explain why the Internet has become such a forum for the delivery of misinformation. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-obama-birth-certificate1dec08,0,7258812.story
As MSM’s have declined, and news organizations have been striped of their resources, hucksters have moved in to sell paranoia and disinformation at a profit. Jerome Corsi followed me to Honolulu, and falsely claimed the Governor had “sealed” Obama’s birth records. He never corrected his story when the Governor denied his claims. The truth was expendable. He did nothing to challenged the Governor’s rebuttal. He just went on to new claims.
Likewise, WorldNetDaily.com has published writers who have been both sources of accurate information about Obama and also provided gibberish masquerading as “constitutional” analysis. Junk sells. People who hate Obama will believe anything, and pay for the privilege of being deceived.
I would love to believe Obama was born in Kenya. Yes I would. And if anyone can show me any evidence of that fact, I will look at it seriously. But the “caller” I spoke with last week now claims she has the exact time when Obama was born in Mombassa. She has become unhinged because of her irrational hatred for Obama. She also believes Obama’s “grandmother,” who supposedly claims she was present when Obama was born. Sadly, the old woman who was originally but falsely portrayed as “granny” by Obama himself (shooting himself in the foot, again) is probably senile and is not his grandmother at all. She was not his father’s mother, period. But Obama managed to fool the Chicago Sun-Times. That paper falsely labeled her as “granny” on its web site for months.
Maybe Obama is reaping what he sows: he lies to the public, and his lies boomerang on him when they are exposed and fuel new speculation. But at the end of the day, even Obama’s lies have to yield to the facts and the truth. And the fact and truth is that his “granny” is not his granny, and the possibility she was present at his birth is remote to nonexistent. Obama exploited a senile old woman for his own disinformation purposes, and now his opponents are doing the same.
Maybe Obama and his paranoid protesters deserve each other.
Where do we go from here? First, let me make an obvious observation. Politicians are given a very wide berth in our political system. From Senator Joe McCarthy, who falsely claimed he had a list of “200 communists” in his pocket, down to the present, politicians and political activists have unfortunately used and abused free speech with exaggerations and disinformation. Obama himself is a master of disinformation and misrepresentation. The constitution protects these exaggerations.
But misusing the courts is entirely a different matter. As I told Phil Berg in August, no one has a right to file a false pleading in a federal court and claim “I saw it on the Internet.” Courts want documentation, not hyperventilation, for arguments presented to a judge. Courts are not a political forum, even if some judges abuse their powers. Courts are not a place for liars, incompetents and con men. That is why Berg and Donofrio are likely to lose, and likely to disappoint their supporters, who will no doubt immediately spawn a new round of “rumors” and fabrications about the “real” basis for their defeat.
Almost every day I get e-mails talking about “rumors” about what is happening at the Court. Rumors from whom? You get the picture.
Secondly, I will continue to strive and search for the truth. I have often said I follow the fictional Sergeant Joe Friday, “Just the facts, ma’am.” The facts may not be easy to get to, and judges may rule against you. But that is no reason to fabricate “facts,” and I refuse to do so.
In addition, as any honest and experienced lawyer knows, in a court of law if you mix lies in with the truth, the lies will undermine the truth and destroy your case. Lawyers who file fantasies in court seldom win, and they often do damage to the very causes and clients they claim to be supporting.
The fact is, Obama has been the source of a great many lies, and he refuses to tell the truth. Why? But, on the other hand, how could sensible people vote for someone like that? These are legitimate issues. But just because they are legitimate issues does not mean they can be fashioned into legitimate lawsuits.
Finally, blame the MSM’s, and blame them legitimately. But, at the end of the day, we still need to confront and attack Obama on his lies, and not create and concoct our own lies to fight back.
By all means, feel free to ask me to attack and expose Obama. I delight in doing so. But please don’t ask me to lie about him. I won’t do it.
