marybeth: marybeth — I think what the article is saying is that Hillary is between a rock and a hard place.
If she accepts SOS, she WILL be the boss of a very important department — Numero Uno at State is NOTHING to sneeze at. On the other hand, she’ll still have to do what oloser says and she’ll take more than her fair share of the blame for his idiocies (because that’s just how it works for hillary). AND who knows how long she’ll last or if she’ll have another shot at elective office if she takes the SOS.
If she stays in the Senate she’s the captain of her own ship. What the NYT article shows is that her ship is kinda like a rowboat. The Senate does EVERYTHING based on seniority. So, even though Hillary is arguably the most powerful and effective vote-getter and leader that the party has, she is still pretty damn JUNIOR in the Senate — she’s only been a senator for about 8 years. The leadership of the Senate (the guys who chair the important committees) each have 25-50+ years under their belts. SO, in order to make her Senate ship bigger, the existing leadership would have to break the seniority ladder and let her climb up ahead of other Senators.
And they dont want to do that.

Letterman’s remark was completely out of place, sexist and decidedly NOT FUNNY. His show has been added to the increasingly tabooed shows on my list. No Jon Stewart or any of the comics who think Governor Palin is fair game for their brand of humor.
What is even more concerning, is the Katie Couric found Letterman’s remark funny, or at least felt that she had to go along with it. I hope she loses sleep over her failure to point out the lack of propriety in Letterman’s remark.

I used to watch Lettermen. Particularly during the primaries he showed his slanted political views and totally favored ‘you know who’ and also became bolder with his perverted remarks towards women. He has truned to slime. And I had to stop watching him. At least, as we still have the freedom to choose, I can turn off the TV or watch something else.
The TV is not on much anymore these days.

I agree with your post #119. I know it’s been miraculous. Hard to really imagine it all…Saddam Hussein and serial rapist sons are dead. No more genocide under Saddam’s rule, and people are free now…a democracy really building. I realize it is amazing. Will history? Contemporary media just won’t give credit to the progress.
