Monday Morning Sign the Petition

by murphy on November 17, 2008

in Action, open thread

The group Women Count, a political action committee founded last year to help mobilize support for Hillary’s presidential campaign, is calling on obama to establish a Presdential Commission on Women. The first commission of this kind was established in 1961 by John F. Kennedy. Eleanor Roosevelt was its chair. This first commission helped pave the way for the feminist movement of the late 1960’s and 1970’s, most notably by founding the National Organization for Women. While NOW may be becoming increasingly irrelevant (see: endorsement of the less qualified male candidate for President over the blatantly better prepared woman), it is hard to overestimate its early importance and role in establishing (or beginning to establish) gender equality in schools, the courts, and the workplace.

It’s been 47 years since JFK convened the PCSW. Do you think it’s time for a new one? If so, click HERE to sign the petition.

Murphy , I read that this morning .
I am wondering if they will say Bubba didn’t pass the mustard in an attempt to further discredit him and try to disrupt a very strong voting block that they are scared shittless of …
It could be an attempt to thwart a future candidacy of Hillary if they try to say the Big Guy has unscrupulous finances ..
That is my hope anyway -

URGENT!!! PROWL NEEDED!!! URGENT! URGENT! URGENT!
It isn’t the “fairness doctrine” that risks Hannity, Rush, and others to have freedom of speech on the airwaves, it’s the current “localism” law on the books. This is URGENT READING. It’s way too long to post entirely on the board. Let me just copy this paragraph:
“Radio and television station owners need to become engaged in the localism issue and then take the time to educate their own Congressman and Senators about the dangers of the FCC’s proposals.

If broadcasters get involved, it just may be possible to block implementation of any localism rules during the few months remaining of the Bush Administration.

This delay is critical, since once it is the Obama Administration leading the fight for rules which would shut down conservative talk radio, Republican Congressmen and Senators will find it easier to fight back.

The Senate needs to draw a line in the sand: free speech, not localism

While President Obama will have the authority to name Commissioners as their terms end, these nominations must be confirmed by the Senate.

A few pointed questions on localism to FCC nominees during their confirmation hearings would be useful. A filibuster of any and all pro-localism FCC nominees would be even better.

Any Senator leading such a filibuster would earn the gratitude of millions of fans of talk radio as well as everyone who believes in free speech..”

The problem IS that there this is, right now, a “lame duck” congress, and the NEW congress is going to be very strongly liberal dem-pro Obama. We may need to do much more than even prowls here. I don’t know. PLEASE READ THIS AND COMMENT- QUCKLY:

Murphy – I think that article is pretty accurate Re ; the situation of the Big 3 . Many people still are stuck in the mindset that the UAW workers an GM have been complacant over the last several years as far as cutting cost , and increasing fule efficiency , and that is just not the case . The workers have increased thier workload to the point where injuries occur daily , have had their healthcare cut and their wages decreased over the last 10 years . The big 3 has sold off thier supply parts operations (Delco etc) into small companies in order to further decrease wages and Union bargaining powers . Almost every vehicle GM makes is , at least, flex fuel .
They have a long way to go , but with the banking failure , it caused several collapses in the supply chain , prohibiting the big 3 from getting parts on a “just in time basis” , car sales tanked and credit was frozen .
The auto industry would not be in this situation today if it weren’t for the banking crisis ….
In otherwords , I don’t think anyone anticipated how far reaching the affects of Fannie and Freddie would be …
Thanks for the article – I saved it .

Re: How one courageous soldier can find out whether barack obama is a natural born citizen under article ii of the U.S. constitution and stop the electoral college from voting for him, if he is not
Our military and defense budget should be administered by a legitimate U. S. President. No one has verified Presidential candidate Barack Obama is a natural born citizen as required by the U.S. Constitution. Yet the Electoral College is poised to cast their votes for him on December 15. Given the complicated legal and documentary analysis required to establish his eligibility, what is needed immediately is a full airing of his legal status in federal court. This means filing a suit that would survive a challenge to standing. And given the recent pronouncements by the court in the several cases now pending, Plaintiffs who could establish standing necessary to force this inquiry are members of the military or National Guard scheduled for deployment or about to be scheduled for deployment to a combat zone; and members of their families….

hahaha this is a new twist:

Don’t be distracted by the birth certificate and Indonesia issues. They are irrelevant to Senator Obama’s ineligibility to be President.
Since Barack Obama’s father was a Citizen of Kenya and therefore subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of Senator
Obama’s birth, then Senator Obama was a British Citizen “at birth”, just like the Framers of the Constitution, and therefore,
even if he were to produce an original birth certificate proving he were born on US soil, he still wouldn’t be eligible to be President.

The Framers of the Constitution, at the time of their birth, were also British Citizens and that’s why the Framers declared that,
while they were Citizens of the United States, they themselves were not “natural born Citizens”. Hence their inclusion of the grandfather
clause in Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution:

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution shall
be eligible to the Office of President;

That’s it right there. (Emphasis added.)

The Framers wanted to make themselves eligible to be President, but they didn’t want future generations to be Governed by a Commander
In Chief who had split loyalty to another Country. The Framers were comfortable making an exception for themselves. They did, after all,
create the Constitution. But they were not comfortable with the possibility of future generations of Presidents being born under the
jurisdiction of Foreign Powers, especially Great Britain and its monarchy, who the Framers and Colonists fought so hard in the
American Revolution to be free of.

The Framers declared themselves not eligible to be President as “natural born Citizens”, so they wrote the grandfather clause in for the
limited exception of allowing themselves to be eligible to the Presidency in the early formative years of our infant nation.

But nobody alive today can claim eligibility to be President under the grandfather clause since nobody alive today was a citizen of the
US at the time the Constitution was adopted.

The Framers distinguished between “natural born Citizens” and all other “Citizens”. And that’s why it’s important to note the 14th
Amendment only confers the title of “Citizen”, not “natural born Citizen”. The Framers were Citizens, but they weren’t natural born Citizens.
They put the stigma of not being natural born Citizens on themselves in the Constitution and they are the ones who wrote the Document.

Since the the Framers didn’t consider themselves to have been “natural born Citizens” due to their having been subject to British
jurisdiction at their birth, then Senator Obama, having also been subject to British jurisdiction at the time of his birth, also cannot
be considered a “natural born Citizen” of the United States.

Murphy , what Tom is lacking is an understanding of what really happens if the big 3 are allowed to file for bankruptcy . If you noticed , it was the UAW president , Ron Gettlefinger , meeting with Nancy pelosi to beg for the loan .
This is because if they are allowed to filed for bankruptcy , it makes their union contracts null and void . they will be able to decrease retirements and healthcare in order to cover their debt . any responsibility they have to provide their workers with sub pay , retirement benifits is out the window . They can close up and move all of their opperations out of the country without so much as a FU to the workers …

“When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children.

Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.”

OBAMA NEEDS BUSH FOR AUTO BAILOUT?

The one thing to look for, the one big red flag, a marker to throw down now with regards to Obama and the bailout is, if the bailout doesn’t happen now and Obama comes to office and doesn’t do it himself, its going to be a sign that his seemingly pathological insincerity is real. If he thinks the bailout is a good idea, then let him do it when he comes to office and let the results will be what they will be. But if, after pushing Bush to sign a bailout bill, he doesn’t do it himself, then the next 4 years are going to be lost years with Obama doing what he is done his whole political life — nothing.
http://tominpaine.blogspot.com/

With its myriad subcontractors, GM keeps 2.5 million people employed. But automakers, losing $2 billion to $3 billion a month, and their congressional supporters, pleaded for a slice of Treasury’s $700 billion rescue package.

President-elect Obama favors supporting the auto industry with a greater economic stimulus. In a nutshell, GM’s assembly line workers cost the company $77 an hour (including all benefits); Toyota, in its U.S. plants, does the same job more efficiently at $46 an hour. GM, Ford, and Chrysler will run out of cash by next summer.

http://newsmax.com/borchgrave/global_ec … 51346.html

Without the UNITED AUTO WORKERS and the big three car makers Obama would never have won the election.

Now the BIG THREE car makers and the UNITED AUTO WORKERS UNION want the tidy little sum $25,000,000,000.00 for handing the election to Obama. But they need George Bush to make it happen.

If you think they should go bankrupt and rebuild on a new and much more improved foundation, call the WHITEHOUSE / PRESIDENT BUSH today and everyday until this additional bailout is defeated.

How confident are we that if a commission on women is formed, that it will not be headed by the type women who supported Obama and trashed the 2 female candidates in this year’s race? Will that really do any good for women’s issues as a whole. I know I ask alot of questions on here and rarely get answers, but I am a very curious person, especially about the details of an issue. RECOMMENDED PROWL – AUDIT OBAMA

I am a single Mom with a full time job and I just do not have the time to organize a prowl, auditing Obama’s Campaign, but I do know how to at least start it. The first step would be to file complaints with the FEC about Excessive Contributions. And there are plenty.

I would suggest that we organize by state with participants taking responsibility for searching last names starting with specific letters of the alphabet.

Opensecrets.org has a great search function: http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/index.php

You have to limit the search to under 1000 results. In most cases this would be to specify the state and a single letter of the alphabet. For larger states, you may need to do two, as in a,ab,ac,ad,ae…

Look through the list and find those names totalling over $2300. Select the area and print out the name with amounts and information.

We can gather them up for submission or you can submitt them yourselves. It requires a notarized cover letter to the FEC.

I started doing this and was shocked by how many there are.

62

BigCatLover 11.17.08 at 11:00 am

I just got a call from an U S Census taker who has been coming by and calling me for about 4 months now. Most of the questions were about my actions during the election campaign. How and how much had I participated, what kind of news outlets did I watch and read, and when and in what format did I vote. If Obama had been in office, I would have been very suspicious of the motive for these questions. There were also questions about my community involvement and how often had I talked to family and friends about the election campaign. Interesting.

What has been happening here is they first eliminate the midnight shift. A few months later, day shift comes to work and the gates are locked and the equipment has been moved out overnight. The workers then try to fight for severance but rarely win. Reason, Mexico is cheaper. The Union has given a lot of concessions but this is what they get.

a Lib,,, i never knew that waaaaaaa
Your PERSONAL issues Score is 70%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 90%.

Prowland here is a list of definitions of different Political Philosophies:

Political Philosophies

Left (Liberal)
Liberals usually embrace freedom of choice in personal matters,
but tend to support significant government control of the economy.
They generally support a government-funded “safety net” to help
the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business.
Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil liberties
and free expression, support government action to promote equality,
and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

Centrist
Centrists espouse a “middle ground” regarding government control
of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue,
they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes
support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves on
keeping an open mind, tend to oppose “political extremes,” and
emphasize what they describe as “practical” solutions to problems.

Right (Conservative)
Conservatives tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently
support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates “traditional
values.” They oppose excessive government control of business, while
endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional
family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military,
oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy,
and endorse strong law enforcement.
Statist (Big Government)
Statists want government to have a great deal of power over the
economy and individual behavior. They frequently doubt whether
economic liberty and individual freedom are practical options in
today’s world. Statists tend to distrust the free market, support
high taxes and centralized planning of the economy, oppose
diverse lifestyles, and question the importance of civil liberties.

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and
economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one
that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.
Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose
government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate
diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties

Murphy – when you begin to regulate speech in a country , you are going down a very slippery slope . Remember Salamon Rushdi ?
it owuld be nice if you could only regulate speech that we disagree with , but like right now , we are not the ones who would be doing the regulating , and I am sure some of our speech is less than welcome in some political circles …

Heneri 11.17.08 at 11:05 am

The real underlying issue here is one that we all have faced: How to pay for health care. The lack of a national health care policy that works for everyone has put the burden on the unions and the companies they are associated with.

Another issue is the top heavy executive compensation that is prevalent in American companies.

I see bankruptcy and reorganization as the answer, not a bail out. The bail out just perpetuates the problem by putting it off until another day.

Another issue is that General Motors (and the other two) buy most of its steel and aluminum products from abroad. This has put the domestic gray iron and aluminum foundry business out of business. These industries were vital to the economic base of the country, and contributed to the multitude of customers that the big three lost. By buying these products from outside the country, the auto companies canabalized their consumer support base.

Any bail out needs to address these issues. Without some type of strings attached, the current situation will always be a looming specter in the future. Without addressing the lack of patronage to domestic support industries, the solution is not complete.

The ultimate egoal is to educate… but, well, you know…
Hate speech is a symptom…. not sure we can cure the disease in my lifetime. The thing about no censorship, is it’s the “tell”, literally. If you censor, the midset still exists, it’s just harder to keep your finger on the pulse to know where people stand.
At this point, though, we know where people stand… and I just don’t want to hear it anymore. Gag ‘em, Danno.

sue66 – I used to be in bargaining in the UAW . People have no idea how the workers have bent over backwards to make the company profitable. they have taken pay and healthcare cuts and added to each person’s job to the point where it is no longer even safe to work in some areas .
The workers have been compromising for 10 years while mgmnt has been moving jobs to China in the dark of night . When China first began allowing GM to build there , Mexico even freaked out because their jobs were moving to China . ANd do NOT get me started on the labor conditions of the women and children who are forced to work in the Chinese auto factories under armed guards !!!!!! There is so much abuse in those factories it makes me cry . To penalize the American workers is not the answer to our problems though ..

I think it was around ten years ago (feels like) when one of the Big three was in trouble, yet again. They asked the workers to take a salary cut, which they did. When the company turned a profit, the ceo et al all received mulit-million dollar bonuses. The works>? Nothing.

The Big Three never listened to consumers, that’s part of teh reason they keep failing. In the 70s, during the gas “shortage” (my ass), Detroit kept turning out 4 wheeled yachts, where Japan was turning out fuel economic vehicles.

All bankruptcies harm workers. I’m in favor of a loan… barring that, let them go under. No bail out. It’s called free trade, survival of the fittest.

Dances , I don’t disagree with you . I would also take it further and place stipulations on a loan to ensure that jobs are created in the US – smaller fuel efficient vehicles (like the chevy volt) I would also penalize the companies for every job they move over seas by taxing the hell out of imports . Further , I would stipulate that the companies use a protion of the loan to invest in the technology required to make the larger vehicles (which are a necessity on a farm ) fuel efficient but with the required torque needed to haul large loads .
I can’t stand what the big 3 has done – I abhore the mgmnt in each and every company , they have made decisions based on the present and not the future and have chased the all mighty dollar into every third world country that would allow them there . I WANT them to pay for their misdeeds ! I just don’t want the workers and the suppliers and entire towns and states to suffer … You kow I have a vested interest in this deal , but whether or not you realize it , you do to …

I have a question about the petition from Women/Count. Thanks.
—–
I think you can be confident that all participants would be Obama supporters. I participated in the White House Conference for Children under Reagan. All participants were chosen carefully – in other words, from what I could determine, all Reagan supporters, even though we had slight differences on issues.

A commission on women under Obama would probably include Caroline Kennedy and she may push her Service Nation goals as to what women should do with their mandatory “volunteer” stint. See: http://pumapac.org/forums/breaking-news/ posts 65 and 67 for more info on Service Nation.

I do not want a commission on women under the Obama Administration.

Went to the NYMag

Hillary and Sarah are both strong and intelligent. They have been portrayed by the media, including this article in a bad light. Why? Because ripping a woman apart is news. It sells. Women have not understood that this viciousness is not about Hillary or Sarah, it is against every woman. Wake up! It isn’t about Hillary or Sarah, it is about you, your mother, your daughter and your willingness to stand up for what is right.

I support PUMAPAC and their support of women.

Heneri 11.17.08 at 11:28 am

I had really thought we had come a ways in the equality category. Most of us work outside the home, most of us have worked hard to become educated. Most of us take personal responsibility in things that were once left up to the other gender. We have contributed, paid our dues, done all the things we thought were required of us to prove ourselves as equals.

Then BOOM! this election set me back on my heels. It is a crushing disappointment to find that all our hard work really didn’t matter. Not to the foaming at the mouth press people who would throw one of our own under the bus in a minute in the name of racial equality. Not to the people, including women like Pelosi, Boxer, and organizations like NOW, who would step aside and allow blatent gender bias to be practiced right out in the open, even condoning the bullying and lying on two qualified female candidates, one for president and the other for vice president.

The disgust and anger that has built up inside of me is ready to explode in ways that I don’t want it to. I am tired of doing what is right hoping someone will notice. I am tired of fighting the fight in silence so that my daughters and granddaughter will have what I thought we all were achieving and had achieved. I am ready to become openly angry, confrontational and mean when necessary. Mostly, I won’t just let them paper over this and go on as usual. From now on, they have to do more than lip service.

I think the misogyny this election was a shock to all of us who have been around for awhile and remember the feminism wars, but I don’t think going after it via women’s issues is the way to turn it around. I think we must target the media and make them pay financially and publicly for their anti certain women stances and also reforming the political parties so that the corruptest asses don’t automatically win all the power in both parties. After that and because of those changes, women can more easily change the handling of them in the media and party politics. In other words, the more we push for a particular group, the easier it is for them to push back and demonize what seems to be a narrow focus issue fight.

——

We don’t have another US Census until 2010. Your “census taker” sounds more like someone from Camp Obama trying to determine how you fit in to their national service act.

I just don’t remember being asked about party affiliation or behavior. What I can remember is age, gender, marital status, race and info about my home

I thought there were only two ways to answer the census questions. First, they send you a questtionaire (sp?) and if you don’t answer it, they send someone to your home.

MURPHY HELP!!!

Perhaps you can assist me in my search; I wish to dedicate my time and effort strictly for the rejuvenation of the Women’s Only Party.
I do no respect the NOW movement and have not for a long time.

From the demise of NOW, there has to be a new and improved Women’s Party that addresses ONLY the issues which affect women.
In North America we have the right to vote, we have control over our own bodies and slowly but surely we are making inroad in business, government and education.

What I am looking for, is a Women’s Party that is focused only on Women’s Issues, whether these issues be for women, who are single, married, single parent, lesbians and all the way up to nuns! Just thought I would throw the nuns in for emphasis women are women….
As most of you know, I am one of Pumas International Members from Montreal, Canada and I wanted Senator Hillary R. Clinton to be elected president.
As I watched in horror as they abused her on CNN and MSNBC, the only relief I found for Hillary was on Fox News, you know the “Fair and Balanced” network, which I was not a previous fan of Fox.
And while posting my angry comments on CNN and ABC blogs, I kept reading comments from PumaPac and of course I investigate and then immediately joined, to help out to the best of my abilities, being a Canadian, via donatons, emails, faxes etc.

As a Clinton supporter I took it personally for her, and as a female I took it personally for myself and every other female that has been man handled and pushed aside.

And these are the reason I want to get back to my feminist roots, A Women’s Party that is like the Phoenix and I want to make sure it never recedes back, into a complacent non-effective Organization such as NOW.

So, Murphy or anyone else, could you please direct me to a growing and strong women’s group, that I can affect…
Thanking you in advance for you help,

Michelina

I’m not assuming anything about the women’s commission, where did that come from? I agree it probably does no harm to ask for a women’s commission, but the petition is too general and does not try to focus the mission of the commission, so while it is a start, it doesn’t seem very effective in it’s goals.

In a way it’s really sad that after fighting put downs to women for so many years, there still are woman’s issues. By now they should be people issues. Have we just been spinning our wheels? There has been a lot if interest lately about 100 mile shopping. I means just what it says, try to buy nothing that was not produced or manufactured within 100 miles of where you live. It started as a way to support farmers. We drive a jeep wrangler and have never owned anything but big three cars or trucks. I don’t believe imports can handle north americain road and weather issues as well as GM et al. I’m trying to by north americain made toys for my granddaughter. That is next to impossible. there is one and only one store in my area that primarily carries these and it’s a local independent store. I am determined I will not support any industry that is overseas. I’ve had it and will only support local workers, be they farm or manufacture.

I am beginning to find that PuamPac is too spread out, this is not a critique, just an observation.

And if as you say Murphy, that Pumas are the new party strictly for women’s issues, then there needs to be a definite Mission Statement reflecting Pumas’ goals and directions.
Then we would be able to email our friends and women organization saying, Do you believe women should do such and such and have a strong voice in corporate, political and educational matters then come and join our new party…

****** QUESTION***********

Last night I could not sleep, so I was just looking around on the computer. I typed in “feminism” under search. I ended up finding numerous sites on “SOCIALISM”! Can someone please tell me why we have sooooo many Socialist cites in this country??? Have they always been around (in this country to this extent) and I was just unaware of this???? I noticed that everyone of them (SOCIALIST SITES) all had a few things in common such as universal healthcare etc…. Honestly, I felt like I was reading one of Obama’s campaign speeches … which outlined everything he is “FOR”. I could NOT find any differences. Also, every site I visited had two predominate colors … red and black! The name of the main site is called … Democratic Socialist (under Democratic Sociialist -there was numerous other subtitles such as Chicago Demo. S. Party
Note: I was aware that there were some remaining Socialist/Marxist left in this country, but NOT to this extent. Have any of ever visited these sites?

Last night (Nov. 13, 2008), KPFT aired a program about which General Manager Duane Bradley and I have received a slew of email and calls. As Program Director, I wanted to offer an apology to those who may have been offended by perceptions of slights to listeners who called in, and provide a brief explanation to listeners about Thursday night’s special.

During the timeslot normally occupied by The Other Side, a host who identified herself as Jennifer (one listener pointed me to this online thread for more information — the host is reportedly “jenniforhillary” and “murphy” was the guest) did a program on the organization PUMA (People United Means Action) with its founder, Darragh Murphy. PUMA is the organization formerly known by Party Unity My Ass, which refused to support Barack Obama in the presidential election over issues related to Hillary Clinton.

The show opened with its host stating she was a former Democrat who voted straight-ticket Republican this year. The show itself continued with a brief interview and a call-in segment that was at some points civil, but was frankly mostly ugly, with frequent interruptions and shouting. Once the show was done, the general manager and I received a flood of calls and email, all of it negative, about the tone of the program, the treatment of callers and actions of the host and guest.

The aired program was a pledge fulfillment from a previous drive, the details of which are a bit involved to get into. What listeners heard was a one-time program. To put to rest the most popular question, The Other Side is coming back next week in the timeslot listeners are used to hearing it. The Other Side has not been canceled.

The second most popular question I have received was: are these people serious?

Perhaps that question is couched in the knowledge that The Other Side is infamous for all flavors of satire. From The Other Side co-host Staci Davis’ stint on the show in-character as Sarah Palin to Glen Urbach’s sarcastic rants about the GOP, The Other Side is known for over-the-top humor. Perhaps the question is also steeped in the opinion (as some indicated) that the allegations offered are almost a year old, seem moot given Obama’s victory Nov. 4, and have been virtually disowned by Clinton herself.

In the case of last night’s program, the individuals on the air are real and sincere in their beliefs.

Almost every listener call and email cited the manner callers were treated as problematic. Examples of yelling matches, people talking over callers they disagreed with or disputed an account from, etc. were cited by listeners.

Days prior to the program, I did provide a copy of KPFT’s policies to our in-studio guest, including our phone call policy. Point four of those policies states “Regulate calls fairly… Do not cut off or hang up on callers.” In addition, prior to the program, I was told that all efforts would be made to keep the conversation principled and depersonalized so to best represent the organization. With that knowledge (and having provided station policy beforehand), I admit I did not believe I needed to direct anyone to refrain from shouting at a caller or cutting anyone off. My mistake.

I do not believe the host or guest were willfully misleading in their statements to me about how they wanted the conversation to go. Being in the studio and discussing issues in which one has a personal stake, I have found, makes people react in unusual ways.

Following the program, for which I was the board operator, I advised the host on appropriate handling of calls. KPFT listeners expect to be given an opportunity to talk, debate and dialogue because that is part of community radio’s culture. One spends more time cutting off (in the process alienating listeners) and arguing with a caller whose version of events you dispute, I explained to the host, than one does by simply letting the caller talk and correcting disagreements after they have finished a sentence. I felt Jennifer accepted that feedback well.

Given listener response, I doubt we will do this kind of show again. And though I’m reluctant to spend lots of time writing about it and thus drawing more attention to a late-evening hour of programming, I believe it best to give listeners some answers to their concerns. I appreciate all the calls and email the station has received. We do listen.

This was in the Austin Newspaper about the caucus in Texas. When we have early voting in Texas and they hold a caucus at a bar near the UT(Austin) campus, then we need to get rid of it. Only one TV station reported on the story.

DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Some voters want Texas’ primary-caucus system to end
By W. Gardner Selby

AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF

Saturday, November 15, 2008

Dozens of voters on Friday advocated scrapping Texas’ controversial system of holding post-primary caucuses to award some presidential delegates.

But the leader of a state Democratic Party panel that heard them indicated that he’s not yet sold on such a step.

State Sen. Royce West of Dallas said that if the committee ultimately supports continuing the caucus system, it would probably urge boosting participation by shifting the caucuses from the Tuesday night of primaries to the following Saturday. He also expects the panel to recommend making caucus sites accessible to voters with disabilities.

“Those are the only two things I’m certain about at this point,” West said.

The hearing took place more than eight months after nearly 1 million Texas voters acted twice to help their favored Democratic presidential candidate — voting in the primary, then attending a precinct caucus.

The Texas party’s unusual combination of primary voting followed by caucuses, in place since 1988 , gave Sen. Barack Obama more Texas delegates to the Democratic National Convention in August despite losing the state’s March primary vote to Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Participants in the hearing at the Texas AFL-CIO Building in Austin cheered former Attorney General Jim Mattox , who said the caucus feature needs reform.

“You’re not dealing with a Gordian knot here,” Mattox told the panel. “This is not something you can’t untie.”

Mattox, a Clinton delegate to the national convention, called the caucuses an embarrassment to the party.

Under the two-step approach, presidential candidates are awarded two-thirds of their pledged delegates based on voting at the polls and another one-third based on turnout at the caucuses.

The state’s March 4 primary seemed pivotal in the presidential race.

Clinton’s wins in the popular vote in Texas and Ohio that day enabled her campaign to soldier on, while Obama’s grasp of more Texas delegates helped him hold his lasting national lead.

Gilbert Hinojosa, a panel member from Brownsville, said he’s not sure about curtailing the caucuses, which some activists view as an invaluable party-building tool.

“I worked my heart out for Hillary” for president, he said. “But Barack Obama would not be president of the United States today had he not beaten her pants off in the caucuses.”

The hearing had been billed as a final chance to advise the panel.

But West announced hearings are scheduled in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas, with recommendations for party leaders to be reached by the end of March.

Generally, West said, he’s heard mixed reviews of the party’s so-called Texas two-step. “I’m hearing a combination of ‘get rid of it’ or ‘change it,’ ” he said.

Billie Jo — a-yup.

The WSJ political diary is calling the Clinton as SOS story a head fake by obama.

“What’s Behind the Hillary Head Fake?

In floating the idea of Hillary Clinton becoming his Secretary of State, Barack Obama has scored a two-fer. If she accepted such an offer, he would instantly neutralize his strongest potential adversary within the Democratic Party, enhance his relationship with Democratic women and gain a tough-minded operator who might actually be able to manage the notoriously independent Foggy Bottom bureaucracy.

But Reason #1 also makes it very unlikely Mrs. Clinton will become Secretary of State. As the nation’s top diplomat, she would be barred by both law and custom from any partisan politics. Fundraisers for the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates would be off the table. She would have to dismantle her formidable political operation. Finally, she would be forced to follow Obama administration policy and rule out, as a loyal soldier, any possibility of challenging him for the 2012 Democratic nomination if his administration were widely seen to be unsuccessful.

Look for a face-saving maneuver that will, in the end, keep her out of the cabinet. One excuse would be the difficulty of unwinding the large number of conflicts of interest arising from Bill Clinton’s global foundation, whose myriad of donors Mr. Clinton would be less than anxious to make public. As the New York Daily News dryly notes: “Questions about those donors, some say, might trip up a new administration that has made itself all about promoting a new kind of politics.”

Thus Barack Obama will get credit for having considered Hillary Clinton to be the nation’s top diplomat and none of the blame when it doesn’t happen. Mr. Obama may be good at shooting hoops on the basketball court, but his real skill is in the political head fake.”

Been lurking all week-end after my Friday night diatribe of cursing like a drunken sailor.

Anyway- I am a Centrist- no surprise to me. My obot husband also scored as a centrist, which he is disputing- likes to call himself a left liberal (we both are socially left).

Our Phoenix protest of Prop 8 was very peaceful and enjoyable- we brought our two kids, 9 and 11 and had so many people thank us for our “straight” support as well as bringing the kids.

I posted on NY Magazine.

Also Murphy- thanks for the WSJ article on why HRC will not be SOS- took all of my notions and laid them out beautifully.

Anyone catch Obie last night on 60 Minutes? I couldn’t watch it, my obot husband did but we don’t talk about anything Obama so I don’t know what was said. I get a stomach ache watching him and she really turns me off- not because she is a woman- just because I can’t stand her! I don’t think she should be subjected to misogynistic remarks but I am happy to point out all of her short comings to anyone who wants to listen.

please say aye or nay in comments — reasons welcome. I’ve been mulling this over for days now . . .

152

Woodie 11.17.08 at 1:04 pm

THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT:

“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”

To the continuing great disadvantage of all American women, the United States Constitution still does not include a guarantee of equal rights on the basis of sex. The Equal Rights Amendment, if and when enacted, will provide that vital bedrock guarantee of full equality to female as well as male citizens.

We are a network of organizations, groups, and individuals, all around the United States, working to achieve the addition of the ERA to the US Constitution – a matter of simple justice for all the citizens of the United States.

The “3-state strategy,” developed during the 1990s, provides a very promising means for attaining that goal SOON, by achieving ratification in just three of the 15 remaining not-yet-ratified states*, and then ensuring that the Equal Rights Amendment is therefore added to the Constitution.

This sparked the current vigorous and rapidly growing campaign to achieve the ERA. Many organizations and individuals, all around the country, are now working for the ERA. (The National Council of Women’s Organizations, NCWO, supports ratification of the ERA; its nearly 200 member organizations have a collective total of more than twelve million members.)

*The 15 not-yet-ratified states are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, and Virginia.

153

GOSUEF4HIL 11.17.08 at 1:09 pm

Murphy-

What would it mean to re-visit the ERA amendment?

What exactly would it do for women? I am all for equal rights but I wonder what ratification of the amendment would really mean? Wouldn’t there still be pervasive sexism, that the media and others could pretend was not there? Like NOW and NARAL and PP have done w/ their endorsement of the chosen one?

If it would further our cause, I would be all for it but I hate to spin my wheels for naught. I devoted hours and hours of the last 11 months to defeat Obie and look where that got me.

Not that I regret a minute working against him- I just want to devote my time in a forward moving way- does that make sense?

“Do you feel like you are living in an alternate universe sometimes? Instead of outrage at the 700 billion dollar bailout and the 600 million dollar man, there are hordes of people who beleve we are transceding to a new form of humanity as evidenced by President-elect Obama. I mean “considering” Hillary for Secretary of State shows “inner strength” on the part of The One. It’s like the nation is on a strange trip of some kind.”

I agree with you 100%. Whether or not BO offered the SOS position to Hillary is irrelevant. The SOS or any cabinet officer serves the President. It is a no-win situation for HC. Does everyone remember during the primaries when there was talk of BO being Hillary’s VP choice? He nixed that idea right away. Hillary should be out in front and say no thanks.

Right after the SOS story surfaced, the media immediately dumped on HC by suggesting that President Clinton’s deals might hurt her possible appointment. Yet, we are to believe that the BO’s campaign of voter fraud with Acorn, caucus fraud, and illegally setting up his website to accept donations over the $2300 limit and from foreign donors are perfectly legal. We have too many media cultists that are whitewashing the true BO.

When the Equal rights Ammendment was being debated before, I was for it. Some women I knew thought I was nuts, and one older lady (now dead) told me to work hard and just go out and be equal. When the ERA died, I did just that. Well, my old friend Bridget, you were wrong! You died without seeing that woman in the White House, or from even seeing a woman mayor of our little town. So much for the work hard idea!

The answer is YES! I would support the ERA and Hate crime legislation that included women.

As strange as it seems, I also support the fairness doctrine. Give that one to Keith and Chris. If the fairness doctrine had been in place: for every single editorial comment they made for Obama and against Hillary they would have had to give equal time to her! When that fairness doctrine was in place before, we had more balanced news reporting. Reporters had to disclose their affiliation with a party or a cause. I think that is a good thing. Rush and Company need some balance in their spew too.

jenniforhillary 11.17.08 at 1:29 pm

This is the letter I wrote KPFT..

Murphy, I will get the prowl proposal done when I get home from work..

Dear Ernesto,

First, I am so very disappointed that you did not even take the time to verify your information. Party Unity my Ass is a group started by Will Bowers (I believe he is in California). Mr. Bowers also was upset with the DNP this year and their selection of Senator Obama and he has been on MSNBC, CNN, and many other forums discussing his group; in fact once he and Murphy, the founder of People United Means Action were on the same show if I am not mistaken. I think that you owe your viewers, and Mrs. Murphy, a clarification AND an apology as you and I went over this in great detail.

Second, as far as the way callers were treated, I felt we did a very good job. I suppose you could say we have a classic difference of opinion. As a host, I did not realize that I had to listen to patently untrue statements being presented as ‘facts’ (i.e. the caller who kept insisting that there was evidence of caucus fraud on behalf of Mrs. Clinton but could not site a single example of said fraud) AND I was not aware that I had to listen to callers who were verbally abusive and were not aware of the facts. Case in point is the FACT that a bill that has been put forth by Charlie Rangle called the National Service Bill. In fact, Rahm Emmanuel even spoke of it last week on one of the national news programs. For those of you who are unaware of this bill let me summarize the scariest part of it: it calles for MANDATORY Universal civilian service for EVERY American between the ages of 18 and 42. For three months the US Government could demand that you leave your job, your family, and your life and SERVE the President. As Mr. Emmanuel put it, and this is a quote “It is time for a real patriot act….” YOU and some of your viewers may not see the similarity between this act and the brown shirts under Hitler, but as a jewish woman I not only see it but I also have the right to SAY I see it. I think it would be an excellent idea for ALL KPFT viewers to do their own research and look up this bill and see for themselves.

I also want to state that I would very much like to do a follow up show on the caucus fraud. I would like to bring the female black democrat attorney that filed the class action (her name escapes me and I had a hard drive crash of my emails but I will get you here name asap) law suit on behalf of DEMOCRATIC voters defrauded at the polls in Texas as well as a first hand account of PUMA members who went to the Denver Convention and witnessed other horrific acts of fraud. I would also like to bring some of the former members of HILL R WE group who were harassed and threatened (these are women who are Latino and Black) while holding signs for Hillary BY Obama supporters to speak about other forms of caucus misbehavior.

I think that KPFT listeners are good people, for the most part, but I think that most of them–and America for that matter–are loath to hear the truth for some reason at this point in our history. I think that they are progressive and intelligent enought to be up for the challenge, and I have no problem bring guests and FACTS and support for those facts to the table, if given the chance. All I’m asking for is a chance. I would hope that KPFT would be open to this, because if not we are in more trouble than I thought.

That is definitely an AYE for me, and I have taken the liberty to post a little snippet of the original ERA.

***The National Woman’s Party took the ERA to Congress in the 1920s, where Senator Charles Curtis and Representative Daniel R. Anthony, Jr.—both Republicans and both from Kansas—introduced it for the first time as Senate Joint Resolution No. 21 on December 10, 1923, and as House Joint Resolution No. 75 on December 13, 1923, respectively.

Alice Paul and Lucy Burns founded the National Women’s Party in 1917. During the group’s first meeting, Paul clarified that the party WOULD NOT BE a POLITICAL party and therefore would not name a candidate for United States president during elections.

After the ratification of the Nineteenth amendment in 1920, the NWP turned its attention to eliminating other forms of gender discrimination, principally by advocating passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, which Paul drafted in 1923

In addition, the NWP continued to lobby for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. In 1997, the NWP ceased to be a lobbying organization.

Instead, it turned its focus to education and to preserving its collection of first hand source documents from the women’s suffrage movement. The NWP continues to function as an educational organization and museum.***
****************
I agree, we should revisit the ERA in honor of The National Women’s Party and perhaps light another fire, under that party if it is still viable.

LET US FINISH, ALICE PAUL AND LUCY BURNS’ WORK!!!

http://nymag.com/news/politics/nationalinterest/52184/

And it’s very interesting to me that the “dunces” picked as the male equivalent of Palin are both twice-elected REPUBLICANS. I dare say that the difference between being labeled a bitch or a ditz is whether you are Democrat or Republican, and personally, I’ve noticed the tendency of Dems to head to the ditz category no matter WHO the Repub they happen to be against is.

Oh, and just how, if Palin is such a ditz did she manage to:

become mayor and do that job successfully
run for governor and lose only to be shuttled off to “watching” and oversight of Big Oil because they figured she’d get eaten alive over there, only to… oh, wait… bring actual reform
And then run for governor and WIN…
And then garner an 80% approval rating (the highest in the nation)
Negotiate a deal with Canada (a foreign country) to build a pipeline to the US

Yeah, she’s a real ditz. Oh, wait though… she’s a Republican, so she must be. If she was a Dem, she would’ve been cast as a bitch, and I’m guessing it wouldn’t have taken a lot of brain twisting on the part of the media to make that happen.

Please, Southerngal, drop the paranoia about commies and socialists. There are plenty of rightwing sites that make that their reason for living.

To find women’s and feminist sites, just follow blog link after blog link and read up and join communities which are like-minded.

There are going to be overlaps, and if our new feminist agenda is to drop the partisan divides then our new sisters from the right are going to have to drop their “Commies!!!!!” chew toy. As I’ve posted in the last few days, if you actually knew any socialists you would rest assured they’re not only human, but also in no danger of making their revolution real. The only ones who can collapse our society would be those in power, if they screw up the economy and our natural resources too badly.

WHITE GUILT IS DEAD
By Tom Adkins

Look at my fellow conservatives! There they go, glumly shuffling along, depressed by the election aftermath. Not me. I’m virtually euphoric. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not thrilled with America ’s flirtation with neo socialism. But there’s a massive silver lining in those magical clouds that lofted Barak Obama to the Presidency. For today, without a shred of intellectually legitimate opposition, I can loudly proclaim to America : The Era of White Guilt is over.

This seemingly impossible event occurred because the vast majority of white Americans didn’t give a fluff about skin color, and enthusiastically pulled the voting lever for a black man. Not just any black man. A very liberal black man who spent his early career race-hustling banks, praying in a racist church for 20 years, and actively worked with America-hating domestic terrorists. Wow! Some resume! Yet they made Barak Obama their leader. Therefore, as of Nov 4th, 2008, white guilt is dead.

For over a century, the millstone of white guilt hung around our necks, retribution for slave-owning predecessors. In the 60s, American liberals began yanking that millstone while sticking a fork in the eye of black Americans, exacerbating the racial divide to extort a socialist solution. But if a black man can become President, exactly what significant barrier is left? The election of Barak Obama absolutely destroys the entire validation of liberal white guilt. The dragon is hereby slain.

So today, I’m feeling a little “uppity,” if you will. From this day forward, my tolerance level for having my skin color hustled is now exactly ZERO. And it’s time to clean house. No more Reverend Wright’s “God Damn America ,” Al Sharpton’s Church of Perpetual Victimization , or Jesse Jackson’s rainbow racism. Cornell West? You’re a fraud. Go home. All those “black studies” programs that taught kids to hate whitey? You must now thank Whitey. And I want that on the final.

Congressional Black Caucus? Irrelevant. Maxine Waters? Shut up. ACORN? Outlawed. Black Panthers? Go home and pet your kitty. Black separatists? Find another nation that offers better dreams. Go ahead. I’m waiting.

Gangsta rappers? Start praising America . Begin with the Pledge of Allegiance. And please…no more ebonics. Speak English, and who knows where you might end up? Oh, yeah…pull up your pants. Your underwear is showing. You look stupid.

To those Eurosnots who forged entire careers hating America ? I’m still waiting for the first black French President.

And let me offer an equal opportunity whupping. I’ve always despised lazy white people. Now, I can talk smack about lazy black people. You’re poor because you quit school, did drugs, had three kids with three different fathers, and refuse to work. So when you plop your Colt 45-swilling, Oprah watchin’ butt on the couch and complain “Da Man is keeping’ me down,” allow me to inform you: Ad Man is now black. You have no excuses.

No more quotas. No more handouts. No more stealing my money because someone’s great-great-great-great grandparents suffered actual pain and misery at the hands of people I have no relation to, and personally revile.

It’s time to toss that massive, obsolete race-hustle machine upon the heap of the other stupid 60s ideas. Drag it over there, by wife swapping, next to dope-smoking. Plenty of room right between free love and cop-killing. Careful…don’t trip on streaking. There ya go, don’t be gentle. Just dump it. Wash your hands. It’s filthy.

In fact, Obama’s ascension created a gargantuan irony. How can you sell class envy and American unfairness when you and your black wife went to Ivy League schools, got high-paying jobs, became millionaires, bought a mansion, and got elected President? How unfair is that??? Now, Like a delicious O’Henry tale, Obama’s spread-the-wealth campaign rendered itself moot by it’s own victory! America is officially a meritocracy. Obama’s election has validated American conservatism!

So, listen carefully…Wham!!!

That’s the sound of my foot kicking the door shut on the era of white guilt. The rites have been muttered, the carcass lowered, dirt shoveled, and tombstone erected. White guilt is dead and buried.

However, despite my glee, there’s apparently one small, rabid bastion of American racism remaining. Black Americans voted 96% for Barak Obama. Hmmm. In a color-blind world, shouldn’t that be 50-50? Tonight, every black person should ask forgiveness for their apparent racism and prejudice towards white people. Maybe it’s time to start spreading the guilt around.

Oh, and Murphy…I have that argument with my son ALL the time. His #1 issue is no censorship, and I keep trying to tell him that even the depiction of violence and sexism and porn hurts actual women and kids.

Yelling “fire!” in a crowded theater is not free speech…hate speech is similar but more difficult to determine. Scientologists aggressively prosecute people outing their cult for what it is, because in California you’re not allowed to ridicule churches…so it is a problematic question.
One critic of theirs actually had to flee to Canada to avoid imprisonment. He came back, but I’m not sure how the story ended.

dwp…I worried about chew toy because it’s associated with dogs and of course any man making that association would really get my hackles (another dog term!) up….but I love dogs, so I simply meant…time for a NEW chew toy!

Plus, seriously, if they knew any Communists, they would not be worried. When and if the “revolution” comes, it will necessarily be from within…from the people, not imposed on us. That’s the definition of revolution.

Hell, we PUMAs are in revolt right now! lol

Communism, socialism, Green Party, etc, do court women, but are just as male driven as any other political party. Women are just naturally more centrist (except I think the older we get the more extreme we become). When I told one socialist group at an antiwar march that NOW (a few years back) had gotten 1.1 million women to march in D.C. they scoffed, “oh. NOW. They’re Democrats.”

I just laughed. How are they going to have a revolution without women and centrists? Mind you, they aren’t thinking of imposing it, they think the “people” are going to evince the change.

“People” minus the majority. There’s a brain trust for you.

Can you imagine Putin, Brown, Merkel being on their cellphones in public? In addition, in other public venues, he’s chewing gum. His behavior really cheapens the office of the Presidency. It reminds me when he carelessly tossed his flower at the 9/11 Memorial.

This is an excerpt from an article titled
How to Buy a Mansion You Can’t Afford

by City Nell 2/4/08 NoQuarterBlog
Preview – MO sat on board for Chicago Landmarks and the house that the Obamas bought falls in that category…sorry this part is long but it shows that many people had a hand in helping the Obamas acquire a property that they could not afford….

“The fact is Michelle was actively recruited for City Hall by a close friend, Valerie Jarrett, who was Mayor Daley’s Deputy Chief of Staff at that time. Valerie later became the Finance Chair of Obama’s 2004 US Senate campaign and then First Treasurer of Barack’s political action committee, Hopefund.
It helps to have friends at City Hall. Among other positions, Michelle was appointed twice to sit on the board of the Commission of Chicago Landmarks for two consecutive terms. Michelle maintained this board seat from 1998 to March 2005, although normally a member only serves one 4 year term.
Flush from the success of Barack’s speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, the Obamas decided it was time to find a residence more fitting for their anticipated new status. Barack’s 1995 autobiography Dreams of My Father soared, and they knew Alan Keyes was no threat to their future success in the US Senate elections.
Sitting on the Commission of Chicago Landmarks board, Michelle knew of a permit, waiting for review and approval to sell, for a designated Historical Georgian revival home built in 1910 with four fireplaces, glass-door bookcases fashioned from Honduran mahogany, and a 1,000-bottle wine cellar owned by a doctor in Kenwood. The Commission is supported not only by donations and taxes but also by charges for permits. It’s a pretty extensive process, and they want a complete history of the house and property when a permit is requested. Once the Board approves a permit, the application goes to the city planning or zoning commission if more than a simple sale is involved.
The doctor who owned the Kenwood home wanted more than the Obamas could afford. As Barack has stated in numerous press interviews, buying the home would be a stretch. Barack contacted his patron Tony Rezko, despite knowing he was under investigation at the time, in order to see what could be done so the Obamas could afford their dream house. Sub-division was likely the agreed-on solution. In order to divide the lot, which the doctor purchased as one entity, he would have to:
– Hire an approved architect and general contractor, who had been involved in renovations and sub-divisions in Kenwood previously
– Have the lots surveyed and new plot plans drawn
– Re-start the Landmark Commission permit approval process
– Hold a public hearing (required).
On page 51 of the Commission on Landmarks Ordinances, one finds a justification for the doctor agreeing to subdividing the land.
The applicant bears the burden of proof that the existing use of the property is economically infeasible and that the sale, rental or rehabilitation of the property is not possible, resulting the property not being capable of earning any reasonable economic return.
Pages 51 and 52 of the Landmark ordinances show how many proofs and other forms of extensive documentation are required in order to subdivide the land. Can any rational person believe the doctor would have been willing to go along with having his property sub-divided, and all the work and time involved, without compensation and assistance? Who paid for this?
With Michelle sitting on the Landmarks board, Commission approval wasn’t expected to be an issue, even though I have not located notice of the Public Hearing from any of the involved boards. From there it would go to the City Planning Board and the Zoning Boards, which also require public hearings. Each of these steps average between 6 weeks and 3 months to complete.
The doctor’s property was located in what Chicago Zoning Terms refer to as Residential Single zone 1, or RS1. This means the house the Obamas bought required 6,250 sq. ft of area. Even if it had the designation lowered to RS2, it still would have required 5,000 square feet, as seen on page 5 of Chicago’s zoning ordinances. Starting on page 8, the ordinances specify setbacks and how much space must be available on each side of a building. The open space on the building’s sides normally conform to Fire Regulations, so that equipment can access all portions of a building during crises.
Public Records at the Chicago Commission on Landmarks, the Chicago Planning Department and Chicago Zoning Boards would show the exact dates of permits, hearings and approvals. Michelle was so confident she listed the Obamas’ condo, which was located on the first floor of a Hyde Park Brownstone. In October 2004, Michelle expressed surprise to a Chicago interviewer that the Condo had sold so quickly, which meant they either had to put off a closing date or write in a lease agreement for a specified amount of time in their Condo purchase contract.
2004 was a year flush with success for the Obamas: the autobiographical book sales increased; the DNC speech had been well received; Obama won his US Senate seat; and Michelle received a recent promotion to a $316,962-a-year position as Vice President at The University of Chicago Hospitals. Their income was over 1.67 million dollars, with anticipation of even greater gains ahead.
All that needed to be done, in the name of the doctor, on the Kenwood property was completed by March 2005, and the house was finally listed. Michelle Obama resigned her seat on the Chicago Commission on Landmarks at the same time. Barack and Michelle closed on their new home in June of 2005, for $1.65 million dollars, $300,000 less than the asking price, and most likely using the proceeds of their Condo for a down payment, while taking out a mortgage for $1.32 million from Northern Trust. Tony Rezko’s wife purchased the newly divided sub-plot for the full price of $625,000 and closed on the same day.”

The full article is listed on NoQuarter 2/4/08 …AlohaPuma is right…there is a real disconnect between the real intentions of BO and these head fakes to McCain and Hillary that he’s putting the needs of the country first. I’m waiting for the bubble to burst around these media cultists to scrutinize and investigate the Obamas, the DP, and Acorn.

ZEE:
“Plus, seriously, if they knew any Communists, they would not be worried.”

I’ve known enough wannabe communists and true blue socialists. I’m not worried about them. I’m worried about the real hard core anti-capitalists, the ones who equate the USA with evil imperialism and think it needs to be burned to the ground, but not that alone: I’m worried about the ones with actual power and serious wealth.

The “revolution” has been going on for decades. It’s been built through certain leftist organizations that are all connected like a web, influencing policy, and pressuring government, and taking over the democratic party–or, at least, controlling it.

The real revolution won’t be a mass of people marching with red flags to DC. The real one would be systematic destabilization of our economic power, and employing a leader who will finish the job and bring about ‘change’ so that capitalism and all its power links are yanked at the root.

Next steps would be to own everything the people own, nationalizing everything, and pushing a new culture of collectivism–which is opposite to America’s pride in individualism.

It certainly won’t be a Union Square protest, a bunch of dissenting nudists, or a bunch of bonged out basement commie pow wows that will take down a government for a real proletariat revolution.

Just need to elect someone who fuggin hates the USA.

My reason, of course, for the ERA is equal pay for equal work. That’s a big one. And quite frankly women should have equal everything. If can send women into battle, which is a fact now days, then they should have equal rights. If I had been paid better I could have a decent retirement check. That is the same for most women, they live in poverty in their old age because all they are living on is social security.

i am for the Equal Rights Amendment. The other reason I want it, is because my lover fought for it back then in the 70’s in Florida when she lived down there. She passed away a couple of years ago 2005, feb. 22nd. it didn’t pass and we should do it for all those suffergetes and other women who helped us make some headway. We do have women who are CEOs and the like, for instance, but I doubt whether they get paid $27 million a year like that bank manager from one of those big banks who went belly up on Wallstreet :)

Oh good grief. Why do people think I am following what happens to Israel? I’m not from there, I will likely never visit there. I’m not a jew. I see countries like chess pieces. You can follow other countries and our relationships with them to see how America will move. Anyway…

Seems so many people take for granted what America really is. We are just free and livin’ like this…why? Just because of history and a few documents? And that’s supposed to sustain us forever? America can cease to be “America” with some votes in Congress, some propaganda, and some reeducating. It can be lost. It’s not forever just cuz.

America is mainly America because of our economic system, our laws, and ideology. ALL those things can change.

It happens little by little. It has been happening. That’s why certain votes, like FISA, etc concern so many people. etc etc

repost from upstairs:
Oh, how about this: a lil socialism is cool. Too much is not cool. Benevolent socialism and empathy for all comes from a decent place. Revenge socialism as a bridge to dominate via communism, stemming from racial & classist hatred for one group comes from a mean place, a la Ayers, Dorhn, Wright, Farrakhan, Cone, Pfleger, etc

(goin’ back up to misogyny upstairs)

GPG;
Your downstairs posting is very interesting! Is there a link? This line caught my eye:

This family still owns most luxury resorts in Bali. Isn’t that where Obama went for 3 months to write a book ?

Actually, it’s where he met up with Ayers to have him ghost write the book! :x  :P

A further thought: in a sense, this would mean a revival and extension of the Suharto regime to America! 8O

Well done, voters. What a sucker-punch!

And wasn’t there a story a while ago about some Indonesian-American Congresscritter toddling off to Jakarta for Omposter to purge the passport files of any inconvenient documents? I wondered at the time where anyone would get the pull and access to departments and files like that, aside from flat-out bribery. This certainly helps explain it!

How deep does this conniving and conspiring go? Have we just seen the tip of the iceberg?

PROJECT AUDIT OBAMA

No, it is no OK that McCain gets audited and BO does not. Even if I have to do it myself. I made some phone calls today to the FEC and believe I have Identified two significant problems with his campaign finances. One I can handle myself but the other requires alot of work and I could use some help.

The project that I need help with involves identifying over-limit campaign contributions, and sending them in to the FEC, requesting an Audit of the entire campaign.

I started doing it today and was shocked by how many there were. They can be identified with reasonable ease using the opensecrets search function: http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/index.php . The task would be to review lists for the BO campaign and pick out donors over the $2300 limit, print them out and compile them. Then they can be sent in with a notarized cover letter as a complaint, with a request to have the campaign audited.

I am going to start in Florida. The search is done for the BO Campaign, by state and then must have some other specification to keep the search limit of 1000. I specify the name be each letter of the alphabet, A, B, C,… If this is too much then they can be specified AA, AB, AC, AD,…

Please Post the blog with if you are interested in participating. Let me know what state you will be working on. Thanks!
