Women who smoke!
Newly appointed 4 Star General, Ann Dunwoody. The FIRST woman to achieve the rank!
Gen. Dunwoody also gets the best quote of the day,
“There is no one more surprised than I — except, of course, my husband. You know what they say, `Behind every successful woman there is an astonished man.’
-snip-
“This promotion has taken me back in time like no other event in my entire life,” she said. “And I didn’t appreciate the enormity of the events until tidal waves of cards, letters, and e-mails started coming my way.
“And I’ve heard from men and women, from every branch of service, from every region of our country, and every corner of the world. I’ve heard from moms and dads who see this promotion as a beacon of hope for their own daughters and affirmation that anything is possible through hard work and commitment.
“And I’ve heard from women veterans of all wars, many who just wanted to say congratulations; some who just wanted to say thanks; and still other who just wanted to say they were so happy this day had finally come.”
More HERE. (h/t to Billie Jo)
Also in the news is talk of obama’s U.S. Senate replacement. Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth is apparently no longer considered a leading contender. But this woman is:
She is Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Personally, I hope she is NOT tapped by Gov. Blagobribeavitch and instead runs AGAINST him for governor. She’s likely to beat him, as he is under a corruption cloud and she was recently reelcted with 72% of the vote. She’s also on the NYT list of most likely first woman Presidents. I like that!
Don’t forget today’s PROWL, and vote in the Puma PAC Poll.

Hi Sue66 -Thank you for noticing my plea on behalf of Woodie. Yes, you’re right, there is nothing better than purring fur – so soothing. So far JennforHillary, KarenWI, Texas and of course you expressed interest. We all are so busy with what’s going on in our families and in the country – that’s a given. But maybe we can help. Woodie’s beautiful cat with green eyes (ragdoll – they’re the best just like babies) needs surgery. We probably can’t raise enough for the whole thing but maybe we can cover part of the expenses? THANK YOU!!!

Woodie needs to contact the ASPCA, they WILL cover the fees, and they WILL give good service.
Do not raise money to pay for some vet who overcharges.
Sorry to be blunt, but there are programs to help animals! My guy friend’s family didn’t spend half his tuition giving money to animal centers for nuthin’. lol. There are programs out there.
If this wasn’t the internet, (where we need to keep private) and I knew where Woodie was, I could research a good and helpful place.
Just take the time to look.
Great, now I am worried about Fritzie’s “megacolon.”

REPOST
NO BAILOUT FOR THE AUTO INDUSTRY
Nancy Pelosi, with the help of Barney Frank, wants to bail out yet another failed sector of the economy. It is not government’s role to reward incompetent, overpaid executives pursuing a failed and anachronistic business model. The American auto industry is in trouble because it produces a shoddy, polluting, gas guzzling product at noncompetitive prices driven by trade union benefit packages. It is a waste of taxpayer money to try to shore up an industry that needs to be radically restructured. The Big Three should be allowed to fail and file for reorganization under Title 11 of the Bankruptcy Code. They will not cease to exist, but will be restructured under the supervision of the bankruptcy courts. Congress cannot do a better job than the courts. The courts will supervise the reorganization of the industry without being tempted to reward lobbyists, campaign contributors and unions for their political and financial support.
Congress must allow the economy, existing laws and judicial bodies to resolve the Big Three’s financial problems and not throw more taxpayer money away under a hasty and ill conceived bailout
The link is: http://www.rallycongress.com/no-bailout-for-the-auto-industry/1409/
I’d appreciate your support by signing it and circulating it.

See this is the sort of local news coverage we could get if the airwaves out here in WA were not clogged with reports no one cares about from New York. “Seattle seeks to ban public nudity in city parks” apparently no one thought to write an ordinance against it until now. But now that they are thinking of it no one likes the idea. Now this is local news! Then I heard good stories on home schooling, the WASAL test and why we should dump it, types of clouds and weather and geography in the northwest. I hate national news I just like the regional news.

Obama paired a Republican and a Democrat to meet with foreign leaders this weekend on his behalf in Washington.
My question is who gave him authority to conduct diplomatic talks on his behalf/for him with foreign entities before he is sworn in? All diplomatic meetings and matters must go through the Presidents office and not by the supposed “Pres.-elect”.
TexasTigress 11.14.08 at 5:36 pm
What many don’t understand is that if the big 3 are forced into bankruptcy , that would forfeit thier current UAW contracts . This would allow them to cut pensions and healthcare for their retirees and current workers as well as the 60, 000 + who are currently laidoff .
This personally affects me and my family including my 78 year old grandmother who takes care of her 57 yr old quadraplegic son (my uncle) . It also affects my mother , my father , and almost every single person I know .
This is not at all similar to the wall street fat cats . these are people who have worked HARD their entire lives and I just wish everyone knew who this is going to come down on if they are not bailed out …..
Sorry for the speech – probably wasn’t appropriate for the blog .. BBL
Seattlegirl 11.14.08 at 5:45 pm
TexasTigress: The bail out of the big 3 is a problem alright and it is a problem for the real people. Solving health care for everyone would help some. I just wish we could bail out real people without bailing out executives who make way too much money and don’t even try to make fuel efficient cars. I think we have to keep some manufacturing in this country. I’d rather bail out Detroit than Wall street any day.

Just been listening to a song by one of my favorite artists, Stan Rogers from the Canadian Maritimes. It struck me that the DNC under Ossiah is likely to be a lot like the Antelope Sloop under Barrett:
Barrett’s Privateers
O the year was 1778
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
A letter of marque came from the king
To the scummiest vessel I’ve ever seen
God damn them all
I was told we’d cruise the seas for American gold
We’d fire no guns, shed no tears
Now I’m a broken man on a Halifax pier,
The last of Barrett’s Privateers
2. O Elcid Barrett cried the town
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
For twenty brave men all fishermen who
Would make for him the Antelope’s crew
God damn them all . . . .
3. The Antelope sloop was a sickening sight
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
She’d a list to the port and her sails in rags
And the cook in the scuppers with the staggers and jags
God damn them all . . . .
4. On the King’s birthday we put to sea
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
Ninety-one days to Montego Bay
Pumping like madmen all the way
God damn them all . . . .
5. On the ninety-sixth day we sailed again
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
When a bloody great Yankee hove in sight
With our cracked four-pounders we made to fight
God damn them all . . . .
6. The Yankee lay low down with gold
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
She was broad and fat and loose in stays
But to catch ‘er took the Antelope two whole days
God damn them all . . . .
7. Then at length she stood two cables away
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
Our cracked four-pounders made an awful din
But with one fat ball the Yank stove us in
God damn them all . . . .
8. The Antelope shook and pitched on her side
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
Barrett was smashed like a bowl of eggs
And the main truck carried off both me legs
God damn them all . . . .
9. So here I lay in my twenty-third year
How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now
It’s been six years since we sailed away
And I just made Halifax yesterday
God damn them all . . . .

I worked for a fortune 500 company for 6 yrs., I loss my job in August 2007, laid off, loss my health insurance, loss my company car, … had to use all of my savings, had to file bankruptcy, … no one bailed me out. I finally found a temporary job making 1/3 the pay, that job ended in June 2008, I’m hanging on to my house by a thread, times are tough. It’s just me and my daughter, I have no husband, no one paying my bills.
The good news is that I start a new job on Monday, but making half my original salary. I understand what you are feeling for your family but why should the tax payers bailout some and not others … where was my bailout?? No one is going to bail me out, nor should they. Why should my money bailout someone else, I’m all tapped out. I say enough with the bailouts. When does it end?

It’s not just those employed by the big 3. The area we are in is all automotive, that’s it. They manufacture parts. The big 3 go down it kills 12 factories in this little town. No one who gives their life for a company should suddenly be cut dead with nothing to show for it. We’re here because of the theatre, there is no work in the US at our level. There is no choice for the auto workers. They are trying to get bail outs for automotive here too.
Keep me posted on Fritzi and what’s going on. My main cat is a green eyed maine coon named Oberon.

Maybe my instincts are wrong — but I wouldn’t be too quick to promote Lisa Madigan just because she’s a woman. I would wait until we’ve had the opportunity to vet her background. Maybe I’m being paranoid but I think these days — it’s a red flag that she’s a Democrat and from ILLINOIS. I would suggest starting to find out if she has ties to the SDS (Student Democratic Society) a.k.a the New Democratic Party. The fact that the New York Times is hailing her as wonderful is another red flag for me.
Again — maybe that’s just me — but I’m not gonna jump on the bandwagon of getting excited about women candidates just because they are women. They need to earn my respect. And if Obama likes them — I’m definitely suspicious. I find women like Claire McCaskill intolerable. So just saying — tread with caution when they are Democrats these days. Not too many Democrats can be trusted lately. It’s not the same party we used to know during our parents and grandparents time.

Hi everyone…loaded sp2 and the pc crashed but i have that under control, besides i have a mac.
Fritzy is in the laundry room after I gave him an enema, and before that I gave him 200 ml of electrolyte water from the vet. Have been dotting over him since 9 am this morning and helping him go poopy-poopy, then he will have a nice bath with cat shampoo and wrapped in a big towel. He is 15 or 16 lbs. big paws, he has been really good but it somewhat hard on him. I will give him 200 ml of water around 6pm CA time 9 pm where you easterners are, and twice again tomorrow.
No credit, turned down, i live in CA near the border, our ASPCA does not do mecial anything. I did get a non-profit no. from the local shelter i havent called yet because the computer crashed.
Other than that everything is fine. I am very touched that you guys are concerned and are offering to help. I just can’t do the alternative, it would kill me. He is such a loving cat and great company. I want him around for another 10 years. He is my bud…

He is in a mess with his promise of taking us out of Iraq and he doesn’t have a clue what to do with Afghanastan (sp?). He wants to put Hillary in there to be his scapegoat. Look at ALL that he has done to this woman during the primary. She wasn’t good enough for Vice President, but he tossed her name out there to make it look like he was considering her. Then, he had to have her out there campaigning with him. All that he has done is USE her. She should stay as far away from his Administration as possible.

I agree, ex-Dem! To me, she’d be in the stereotypical role of a female with all of the experience and expertise working for a male “supervisor” with neither of those. She would give her best ideas with none of the credit (and all of the blame for anything that goes wrong).
Plus, as you pointed out, HOW COULD SHE?! after all his campaign did to her!

Woodie hope your kitty-kat gets well purrty soon. It’s sad that a majority of those in the medical field for humans or animals, always think of the almight dollar first. I’ve had three vets in different states and they all took care of my pet and put me on a payment plan. In fact I’m on a verrrrry tight budget, and my dog got sick and my vet put me on a plan. Some months I can’t pay, and she lets me slide. As soon as I finish with one bill, it’s time to start up another bill. I am so lucky I have a great vet with common sense who listens. A friend of mine has a ranch with 16 Arabian horses and two bumped into one another and one injured his leg. She has to take him to a horse specialist, he sprained his ligaments and may need surgery. One specialist to her if the horse needs surgery, he would stay overnight. Another specialist told her that if he does the surgery, the horse stays with him SIX WEEKS! CA-CHING!! Needless she’s seeing the vet with one overnight stay. She also breeds German Shepherds. She has 9 grown dogs and about 14 puppies. Can you imagine her vet bill?
Good luck, Woodie.

I also posted a thought last night about the Clinton nomination to Sec. of State. As you’ve noted — Obama doesn’t do anything unless it’s going to benefit him. What if he finds Clinton in the Senate a threat since she could vote against his policies and the policies of Pelosi & Company? What if this is a plot to keep him under his thumb in this new position while allowing him to put a more loyal and radical Dem in her Senate seat to vote in all his policies?
I think she might be able to do more good staying in the Senate as weird as that might sound.

This makes me sick!
Who doesn’t want to get in the act of free, and sometimes forced, taxpayer funded infusions of free government cash? I would love to get infused with cash from the government. Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. has reported agreed to purchase a small savings and loan business, allowing it to raise up to $3.4 billion dollars in taxpayer money. Hartford is snapping up Federal Trust Bank for a mere $10 million dollars, small change compared to the benefits that it brings.
It’s not the only company doing it. It has now become fashionable on Wall Street to become a bank or holding company in order to bilk taxpayers of their money. This is getting to look like a really disgusting form of robbery. Next thing you know we’ll have American Airlines and Delta snapping up small banks and becoming “Bank Holding Companies” so that they too can get in on all that free money.

Sorry DWP but being in the place of suffering is so healing. When the pain is big enough we actually make contact with god and have a great conversation. Much of God’s message to us is delivered during periods of great suffering.
Seriously suffering is the place from which we all make great strides. It is from here that we find strength in ourself and move up to new heights. Of course none of us think you are serious about dieing. If you are really serious then that is different and you can come live with me and we shall pour love all over you every day. That should heal you real fast. nothing like a spoon full of sugar and love every day.

#79MZEBEST: It is my view that any offer to Hillary Clinton for any position outside of the one she has now as Senator will be precisely an offer to remove her and to futher marginalize, by making her a front for his moves or a foil for his failuires. If she is offered anything and or if she takes anything, she is making a wrong political move. Moreeover, she will also be marginalized in the Senate re appointment to committees. I hope her personal hubris understands that. But the fact is: She got in the Oslima boat and rowed just the rest and if she believes anything he said to her or believes it now, she is not the mind I thought she was. I hope she stays in the Senate and uses her across the aisle powers to help reject or refine some of the crap that will be coming down the pike from Oslimo and his minions.

More importantly, as SOS he can dismiss her for any reason, thereby eliminating her totally from the Senate and shortening her political life.

We are totally on the same page. It may not be popular to say this — but I’ve become increasingly suspicious of Hillary’s motives and goals and how much she’s come around to seeing Obama’s side. I once would have defended her stance on anything but my eyes are a lot more open these days and I’ve learned that Dems can’t always be trusted (even if they are women).
I may be morphing into a Republican and it’s not that I embrace their platform — but I do perceive them as closer to the good side of caring for what happens to this Republic at the moment. I know there are good and bad in both groups — but for now — I trust the Republicans more.

What a Country!
Wall Street Journal
The move by Republicans underscores the party’s disarray a week after Democrat Barack Obama was elected president and Democrats expanded their majorities in the House and Senate.
In announcing the lawsuit, RNC Chairman Mike Duncan said Republicans need large donations to help rebuild their political party. The lawsuit would overturn the signature legislative accomplishment of the party’s 2008 presidential candidate, John McCain, who championed the ban on so-called soft money donations in 2002.

Comment by Charles Lingerfelt 2 hours ago When Contacting the U. S. Supreme Court Justices!!
The following is information everyone should know and action to take regardless of for whom you voted.
Note: It has been suggested that we all sign our letters: “A Friend of the Court.”
There are two issues regarding Senator Obama:
1. his birth certificate proving that Obama was born in Hawaii. (If he was!)
2. his citizenship papers showing that Obama has U.S. citizenship.
In Indonesia, there are school records showing he was registered as Barry Soetero, with Indonesian citizenship. At age 10, Obama left Indonesia, using an Indonesian passport, to move back to Hawaii. At that point, he should have re-applied to become a citizen of the U.S.
Facts: Obama has yet to release birth certificate or citizenship documents (as well as others!)
Why? It is a simple thing to present and stop the speculation and unify the country with the truth.
Fact: There have been state lawsuits filed and/or prepared in WA, FL, NC, CO, CA, OH, FL, CT, GA, TX, MI. Related lawsuits in HI, US District.
Some have been dismissed but they plan to refile. Andy Martin’s lawsuit in Hi goes to court on November 18. By Mr. Martin starting in the District Court and with the reasons he is using, he actually has a very good chance of getting the standing that is needed. I read a long article on this last night on a law review.
Fact: Supreme Court lawsuits have been filed in PA and NJ~
The one in NJ is in the process of being refiled. All the documents can be seen at:
http://www.blogtext.org/naturalborncitizen/
The key fact surrounds two conversations between the plaintiff-appellant and a key Secretary of State Election Division official wherein the official admitted, twice, that the defendant-Secretary just assumed the candidates were eligible taking no further action to actually verify that they were, in fact, eligible to the office of President. These conversations took place on October 22nd and 23rd.
“Due to some very unorthodox treatment of the case in the NJ Appellate Division, and also by the US Supreme Court Clerk’s office, a press conference is now being prepared to coincide with the re-submission of the Stay application to Justice Clarence Thomas.”
However, the papers will be given to all the Supreme Court Justices to review.
In PA, the first filed lawsuit was by Phil Berg. It is now in the Supreme Court and Obama’s lawyers have to answer the Writ by Dec 1. See Mr. Berg’s website: obamacrimes.com
There are postings about this on numerous blogs stating that Obama has to present his BC by Dec 1. If you read this, please correct it. The judge has not ordered anything! Obama’s lawyers most likely will answer with another motion, which Mr. Berg will answer, then the judge will probably make a decision on whether to proceed. It jeopardizes the case for false information to be floating around the internet, per his assistant with whom I have spoken.
There is also an issue of who has the right to file and have standing, which brings us to the electoral committee. The electors are the ones who have to do the “official voting” for the people; therefore, they need to be sure the candidate for whom they are voting is eligible to be President. As of a couple of days ago, 24 electors have joined in the lawsuits asking for Obama to present his documents.
Dates to be aware of:
Quote:
December 15, 2008 – Meeting of Electors: The electors in each State meet to select the President and Vice President of the United States. The electors record their votes on six “Certificates of Vote,” which are paired with the six remaining original “Certificates of Ascertainment.” The electors sign, seal and certify the packages of electoral votes and immediately send them to the President of the Senate, the Archivist of the United States and other designated Federal and State officials.
* December 24, 2008 – Deadline for Receipt of Electoral Votes: The President of the Senate, the Archivist of the United States, and other designated Federal and State officials must have the electoral votes in hand.
* January 6, 2009 – Counting Electoral Votes in Congress: The Congress meets in joint session to count the electoral votes (unless Congress passes a law to change the date).
Things we can do to assure that Obama is eligible to be President and that our constitution is upheld:
1. Send a letter to all Supreme Court Justices requesting for them to please ensure our constitution is upheld and that Senator Barack Obama presents his birth certificate and citizenship papers to prove his eligibility to be President.
Address letters to:
The Honorable Associate Justice (Full Name)
United States Supreme Court
One First Street, N.E.,
Washington, D.C. 20543.
When writing to Chief Justice Roberts, please make sure the envelope is addressed to:
The Honorable John G. Roberts, Chief Justice of the United States
Sample letter:
[QUOTE] Dear Honorable Associate Justice (last name), or Chief Justice Roberts when writing him
I am writing to ask you to please uphold our constitution by verifying the eligibility of Barack Obama to be the President of the United States. There is much speculation and the only way for the country to feel secure that he is eligible is for you to settle this matter.
Please request Barack Obama to present his birth certificate to the courts for verification. Please also request any citizenship papers showing he acquired U.S. citizenship when he moved from Indonesia back to Hawaii. This latter request is due to school records from Indonesia showing he was enrolled as Barry Soetero, with Indonesian citizenship.
Thank you for your honorable service to our country and for upholding our Constitution in these trying times.
Sincerely,
Send letters to the following:
John G. Roberts, Jr. Chief Justice of the United States
The Supreme Court Associate Justices are as follows:
John Paul Stevens
Samuel A. Alito Jr.
Antonin Scalia
Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Anthony M. Kennedy

I had heard about this lawsuit this morning. At first, I was shocked by it. Then, after thinking it over, I think I understand why they are doing it. They will never win another Presidential election if they tie themselves down to the McCain/Feingold bill. It’s a great bill, don’t get me wrong. It had very good intentions of doing the right thing. However, the Democrats are NEVER going to abide by it. That leaves the Republicans with their hands tied as to whether they agree to it or not. If the Dems are going to run ramapant like Obo did and collect all kinds of $$$$, whether legal or not, the Republicans have to be in equal footing or they will not win again. Oh yeah, now, the FEC is not even auditing the fraud but is auditing McCain. It’s just too much that is a hindrance to the Republican chances of ever winning again. That may be where they are coming from, IMHO.

Details on Hillary-Barack Meeting
ABC News’ Martha Raddatz reports: President-elect Barack Obama met with Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., Thursday in Chicago to discuss the possibility of the senator becoming secretary of state.
A source with knowledge of the transition process describes the meeting as not a hard offer. Obama is more cautious than that.
He is doing this more elegantly, but a source said Obama took a big step toward Hillary. They had a long private meeting in which they talked about their philosophies and what had transpired during the campaign.
He was extremely respectful, saying she was great, and giving her a huge amount of support. He said that he knew how much she cared about health care but said there are other challenges, and wanted to reach out to her about secretary of state.
They were both cautious but again took a big step toward her. She reciprocated.
Obama does not want to be seen as being rejected by her, but it is “hers to turn down,” one source put it.
They have an agreement to have another meeting or phone conversation about this very soon.

I don’t understand why people don’t want other people to get married. What are the reasons here?
——————–
What “yes, hate” people have explained to me:
The christians (small “c” intentional) in this area,
want to “protect marriage”. I can’t even begin to go there with that kind of response. I alwso realize that many of them are a half a bubble off of level any way.
brick short of a load, etc.
My supervisor, a minister, says he’s against it because if his church refuses to marry gays, they will be sued. (Dumber than a bag of hammers).
The state is against it because they will lose revenue by paying out benefits to married couples.
Then their are the other lackwits who extend the arguement to “what next? humans marrying animals? Unclear on the concept of consenting adults.
Some couples I know want to get married, but refuse on principle, until gays and lesbians have the same right to marry. Walk = Talk. GOOD FOR THEM!!

mzebest…..i will try and explain. well it goes something like this.
have you ever watched two attorneys. one is on the defense and the other is the proscutor. They will fight each other and the best man wins so to speak. Then afterwards they go up to each other and say, “so do want to go for a drink”. They even fight for guilty people who they know are guilty. Its a game really. but its also the law and the law is the law above all else but it is still the law. So what you perceive as hypocritical is just some guy defending someone but he may play a different role tomorrow. Its the same with repubs and the dems. You see them on one side and they are devout dems then an opportunity comes up and they are on the republican side. You may say what a hypocrit but really all to them its just politics. Its kind of a nebulous thing that you can’t put your finger on.

——————————-
If two people are married, they are married no matter what the law says. What really drives alot of resistance is all the tax, medical insurance and benefits that go along with it. Then there is the issue of the cost of treating AIDS where there is a higher incidence in male homosexuals and bisexuals. What is really driving resistance is $$$$. Universal Health Care would make some of that
go away.

#156woodie; Your analogy that compares lawyers functioning as lawyers and thus at times defending that which personally they may not chose to express or defend falls very short and is inadequate as a description of what a politician is supposed to be and what he or she does or does not do. And, in particular, it fails to distinguish between the function of an elected official, who is elected to represents the interests of a populace, not the interest of a paying personal client and that of a personal attorney.
You have, however, described something alright..You have described perhaps the dregs that we receive when laws are made by too many attorneys, as they are now, and when the aims of self interest override the overall good of the people for whom these hypocrites have been elected to serve.

Re: Same-Sex Marriage
I’ve been on both sides of this issue. IMO, I think it’s not productive to accuse people who are against same-sex marriage of being “haters”. In many cases it’s not about hate or fear. Yes, for some people it is hate or fear, but not for most. Name calling is nothing but an ad hominem attack which kills important dialogue which is needed on both sides of the argument. Most of the people on both sides of this issue are good people.
I suggest that you read this interview with Jonathan Rauch, who makes the argument for same-sex marriage.
http://pewforum.org/events/?EventID=179
Then read this interview with Rick Santorum, who makes the argument against same-sex marriage.
http://pewforum.org/events/?EventID=180
IMO, both make some very good points. As long as both sides are yelling at each other, calling each other haters, etc. no one will make progress.
My 2 cents.

Alan Keyes is now a part of a suit against nobama.
BREAKING: Alan Keyes sues Obama over citizenship proof
::
AIP News -> AIP National Committee News
Presidential candidate Alan Keyes, AIP leaders sue in CA court to obtain Obama citizenship proof, stop Secretary of State from certifying Electors
Fenton, MI – November 14, 2008
Presidential candidate Alan Keyes, vice-presidential candidate Wiley S. Drake, and the Chairman of the American Independent Party, Markham Robinson, have filed suit in California Superior Court in Sacramento seeking to bar Secretary of State Debra Bowen from certifying to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger the names of Electors, and from transmitting to each presidential Elector a Certificate of Election, until documentary proof is produced and verified showing that Senator Obama is a “natural born” citizen of the United States, and does not hold citizenship of Indonesia, Kenya or Great Britain.
In addition, they have asked that the court issue a peremptory writ barring Senator Obama’s California Electors from signing the Certificate of Vote until such documentary proof is produced and verified.
In response to questions about why the suit was being filed, Ambassador Alan Keyes commented, “I and others are concerned that this issue be properly investigated and decided before Senator Obama takes office. Otherwise there will be a serious doubt as to the legitimacy of his tenure. This doubt would also affect the respect people have for the Constitution as the supreme law of the land. I hope the issue can be quickly clarified so that the new President can take office under no shadow of doubt. This will be good for him and for the nation.”
Former Reagan administration official Ambassador Alan Keyes and Wiley S. Drake were the 2008 presidential and vice-presidential nominees of the American Independent Party, which is the California affiliate of the new national America’s Independent Party.
Mission Viejo, California attorney Dr. Orly Taitz and United States Justice Foundation Executive Director Gary Kreep are representing the plaintiffs in this case.
Copies of the court filing, along with further information concerning developments in this case, will be made available at http://www.AIPNEWS.com, or can be obtained by contacting AIP national chairman Tom Hoefling.

Thanks. Rick Santorum speaks of “moral ecology,” and he brings up that gay marriage could deconstruct our societal structure. He argues that gays do not show any data representing gay marriage as a positive to society, and yet he states that hetero-normative marriage IS positive to society.
I think it would be interesting to tackle precisely what he considers the positives of traditional marriage, and then argue it numerically, you know, just go down the list.
Because I understand he feels passionately about it, but he’s also not making me understand why one way is more important than the other. Ya know?
I do think a good male role model and a good female role model are important in every family. But you know how many people are divorced–raised by single families, and also how often two parent homes are dysfunctional.
I still don’t get the horrible ramifications that could go down. Is there really an argument that animals would then get married or something? Marriage= people, consenting people–of legal age. No?
And yes, you are right, nobody should be called haters, etc. It breaks down the the only available bridge to remedy this issue.

“Any woman willing to go into the military” is not the same as all women liking the idea of being drafted into combat positions. Last time I checked NOW’s stance on this (and its been quite awhile I admit) they didn’t like the idea at all. Had no objection to MEN being drafted but, no women.
Also most women I know have the idea that if a woman wants to serve the should not be prevented form doing so but, they oppose women being drafted.
I clearly remember from years ago that the majority of women held that view. Its been such a long time since anyone said “draft” that the issue has been dead for years. I wonder what the stats are now on the issue.

Heneri 11.14.08 at 9:13 pm
It has been a long, productive, and tiring week for me, so I will make this quick.
Marriage: All marriage should be a contract similar to the Hebrew Ketubah. That is a legal and binding contract that is signed between Jewish couples. It has been called the world’s first pre-nup. Anyway, any two human beings (gay, straight etc) should have one of these instead of a ‘marriage license’ like we have now. That would put all ‘unions’ into the category of domestic partnership. If anyone wanted more, sanctification from a church or synagogue, temple, clergy of one’s choice, they could seek that out beyond the ‘regular’ domestic partnership. This should end all discussion about the matter.
About Hillary and the Sec. of State: I think BILL CLINTON should be appointed to state, otherwise, if Hillary takes the spot, Bill should be appointed to the senate to fill out the term.
How is that for quick and painless solutions?

You need to consider semantics and ramifications when writing laws.
Have you ever taken a law class?
If you sat “People have a right to marry other people’ as a RIGHT, then NO LAW can be created to prevent that.
Reread those words. “People have a right to marry PEOPLE.
Period.
That means all people have the right to marry another person whomever they choose.
NO “LAW” can be written or enforced that would deny that right.
You can not confine that right to a “Privilege”.

here you go kat here is a true story…
I will shorten it , but
two men had a ranch together for 35 they were a couple….ranching…..
one of the men died…a distant cousin of the dead man took the partner to court to get the ranch ….not only did he win in court…but then he took the partner to court to get rent from the partner for 35 years of living on the ranch……guess what ..the cousin won both cases
Heneri 11.14.08 at 9:27 pm
I think for some straight people there is the EWWWWWWwwwwww! factor in thinking about same sex marriage. For those people, they find the specter of two people of the same sex having sex to be extremely gross. Fine, they don’t have to participate.
I have a relative who thinks homosexualtiy is a sign that our culture is falling apart. Someone in the church she attends claims that when people start accepting abortion and homosexuality the society/culture is deteriorating and will soon disappear. They point to Roman and Macedonian cultures (Caesar and Alexander) as examples of dying cultures. Of course the eastern Roman empire stayed around for over 1000 years, Chinese and Japanese cultures have always accepted homosexuality as normal, and they have existed in some form for more than 2000 years.
But these ‘experts’ in the churches have their own ’sources’ that say otherwise. They don’t like science that tells them something contradictory to their religious doctrine. For them this is a hard and fast ‘truth’ that they accept and believe they are ’saving us from ourselves’ to oppose gay rights.

Didn’t marriage start because a man wanted to make sure his sons kept his land and inherited his goods, and this is why women lost their names, because the daughters needed to marry another man to take on his name and have some of HIS goods?
Seems like marriage started out as a big daddy eff you. Or am I way off and marriage is not a patriarochal discussion at all?
I mean, women live longer than men if they do not marry, rather than vice versa. Women can provide their own security now.

Patriarchal origins indeedy.
Land, cattle, and women were considered property of the man.
When the husband died, often the women would be left destitute, not having the right to own property.
As late as the late 60s, that would be the NINETEEN SIXTIES, women couldn’t apply for credit cards without the written consent of their husbands.
Although I understand the modern reasons for marriage, I don’t support the concept… but, I do support the concept of equal rights under the law.

are you asking me why gays and lesbians want to get married or why people in general want to marry????
Heneri 11.14.08 at 9:38 pm
One view of Human Rights is: Every human being is born with unlimited rights. He/she has the right to do anything and everything he or she pleases. But because we are civilized and living in a structured society, we choose to give back some of those rights to the appropriate governing body. Those rights that we give back set the parameters of our rights vs our fellow citizen’s rights.
The Bill of Rights alludes to this when it says that all other rights not named in the document belong to either the person or in some cases to the state in which the citizen resides.
According to this premise, any restriction on a person’s right to act this or that way, do this or that activity, must be specified and agreed to, or there is not a restriction on it. Thus,(following this premise) gay marriage is legal in every state unless there is a specific law forbiding it.

How about this semantic. Every Human in this country should be extended equal protection under the law. You cannot codify into law, such as PropH8 did, the disenfranchisement of, and discrimination against, millions of people. Everyone has the right to pursuit of happiness, and two people who love each other, possess property that is communal for each, and have children, should be afforded the equal protection under the law for the enjoyment of their rights and their property. If they want a church blessing, and the church believes in human rights as such, then they should be allowed to exercise the common freedoms we all are expecting is our right, and they should be able to marry. A gay, or lesbian couple are not infringing on the rights of anyone when they marry, nor are they breaking the law, especially when it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and will be thrown out. The matter cannot be decided by the majority, this is the 14th Amendment. I see this being settled by the Supreme Court, and they will come down on the side of equal protection under the law. Love is not a crime. Human Rights is what we are talking about here. Open closed mind and heart and put yourself into the peoples shoes who live in states where their marriage is thrown out as against a hate-law. I am proud I live in Massachusetts where human rights are not to be infringed on and all are afforded equal protection under the law.

Ah that was the argument and it worked.
However, and here is where the differnce between laws and right s come inb.
Now, a firearm is apice of personal property. Correct?
The government now has the right to take your property simply by accusing you of committing a crime.
So far, the feds have been careful about employing that little loophole. They only use it on “drug lords” but, they can do it to anyone at anytime. Legally.
Why? because several rights were restricted in that “common sense” ruling.
You have to be VERY careful when you deal wit rights.

You know, I was only going to lurk from now on, but I think I’ll speak this one more time. You want this group to grow and get a lot of new people in? That was the impression I got during and after Jenni’s show last night. Well, let me give a bit of advice then- as someone who runs a group of about 1300 people from around the world-… don’t be so quick to attack members who mean well and who have been an loyally active part of the group. You aren’t going to get…and keep…. a lot of members like that. First it was me… saying I was sexist… and now Mick. I, personally, want this group to grow and be successful too…. that’s why as one group leader to another group that I care about I’m sharing this tidbit of advice. I suggest that the members of this group not be quick so “prickly” and quick to attack another PUMA.. sheath the claws when you’re talking to another PUMA. Ok, now I’m going to back to lurking again….. Bye!

May I suggest you look into the Libertarian party? They might be what you’re looking for. I switched to them after Obama stole the primary.
=====
Ugh, may I just repeat: UGH. But a natural place for Hillary-bashers to go. Try Free Republic…they out-thugged the Obots before there were any Obots. They are basically Republicans who believe in Marijuana…and in everyone building their own roads and stockpiling their own guns.
Way before Corsi came up with his conspiracy on the replacement of the Dollar with the mythical “amero” Ron Paul was there in the 70’s screaming his Chicken Little “The Dollar is over! The Dollar is over!”
The parties are just some brand names you can switch between, like Pepsi, and Coke, and RC Cola interchangeably…and those who suggest they are…are rightwingers. What happened to reclaiming OUR party?
Alice Paul voted for the Republicans as a PROTEST vote, as PUMAs did this year. But if rightwingers think they can make glib remarks about how now Hillary is “over” and we should all become *Libertarians* of all things, well…fine. Prepare to be called on it. Nice try, tho.

Zee 11.14.08 at 9:59 pm
Woodie, 156, yes, what you say is true. That is the game. That still does not change the fact DURING the game, and there is a difference between the roles of prosecution and defense…and rethugs and dems.
Our biggest problem will be Dems going along with Obama…not the Dem platform itself, which IS, mercifully, difference from Republican.
But, as indicated by Obama’s retreat from Summers…we can influence Obama so long as we can grab media attention. The New Agenda and the “new women’s groups” are news now. Obama, like all narcissists, has a weak spot: they can’t stand being shamed. The more noise we can make, the more influence we’ll have.

right Dances! it’s a thing that MEN started to keep the little woman in line! treated her like chattel! or cattle ! or just goods sold to the highest bidder!//
=======
Au contraire! Started by women to try and keep the man from bugging out when the (fur-?) rug-rats got too noisy (and expensive).

For entry 326/327 just click on the Fate magazine entry. For some reason I cannot copy the link from the original article.

Woodie,
My home state is Florida, but I am currently on a work assignment in Europe. I will ask my genius (really) veterinarian whats involved in treatment and/or surgery for Fritzy’s condition. Maybe he even knows a good samaritan veterinarian in your city. What city do you live in?
The vets have a close knit community just like, lawyers, politicians (HA HA) and others. Please get my email address from Murphy. Just like jenniforhillary – I am concernet about Fritzy’s condition. You do have much on your hands, and you probably take care of your mother too. I can just imagine Fritzy wrapped up in a blanket – purring and happy because he is so clean. When you get my email address – please write in detail your kittty’s medical description, etc. so I can ask my vet. Hang in there!!!
