To all military pumas….thanks
I also want to say some of my best leaders and commanders in my military service have been women. I am currently serving here in the UK with a female commander. It is just to unfortunate America doesnt value there serve. Sarag shouldve been recognized a hell of alot more than obot in this years election. Instead she was vilified.
TXRepGirl 11.11.08 at 9:28 am
Election fraud? What election fraud? Only if it was a Dem that lost, right?
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,449334,00.html
I called this one several days ago. Wow! They found 500 “typos” in a week. Only have to find 222 more, and the election can be officially over!

Adding my sincerest THANKS to all who have served!!!!
God bless America!!!!

ok, I’ve got to go.
Thanks TexasTigress and Wontbackdown.
Also, Murphy, that picture where Hillary is sitting there and BO is pointing his finger at her absolutely infuriates me.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t have it up, because you should. It helps remind people exactly what brought us here and just in case anyone’s passion should start to wane, just take a look at that. I get pissed off all over again every time I see that. (and that’s a good thing.)

For those who might be new to PUMA P.A.C. or who have been away for a while, and who want to participate in today’s prowl, a little clarification on who WBD is, where the letter can be found, and where the link to the media quick list is would be helpful!
I’ve been away from this site for a long time, and love the new look, but also, not being part of the “in crowd”, have no idea who WBD is!
Thanks!

Rep Paul Broun
Email form http://broun.house.gov/email.shtml
Phone: (202) 225-4101
Fax: (202) 226-0776
Re: Obama Elects “National Security Force concern
Dear Congressman Broun:
I have just read the AP Article on your concerns regarding Barack Obama’s proposition on a National Security Force.
Thank you for your courage to speak out on this issue. I, along with the Political Action Committee I am a member, PumaPac.org, share your concerns. We are in the process of preparing an information piece on this issue for National distribution.
Congressman Broun, the majority of our PAC are life-long Democrats, who supported the McCain/Palin ticket in protest of the Democratic Party’s selection of Barack Obama as the nominee in this election.
Sir, we need your help and support, as well, as we are up against a powerful and well-funded political machine. Our party has proven, in our opinion, that being in complete Party control of our Government is more important than protecting our beloved Democracy, which we strongly believe is in jeopardy under the ideologies of a Barack Obama administration, which were staunchly denied during his campaign, but are now coming to light, as a reality.
Please be advised that, if there is any possible legal way to stop Barack Obama from taking the Office of the Presidency, that is our intention. We believe that the general public was unaware of the massive voter fraud in many states, Obama’s history of radical affiliations, and his highly suspect, and in some cases, clearly illegal fund-raising practices.
The other issue of concern is Obama’s recent formation of a 501c-4. His use of such an “under the radar structure,” that is clearly being used to organize and garner financial support in furtherance of his questionable policies, needs to be made public.
While many of these questionable issues preceded his candidacy, he is now clearly integrating his ideologies and lack of transparency into his Presidential Administration Plans – as noted by his recent proposed “policy” announcements by he and his transition team.
Sir, we have every intention of nationalizing all of these concerns. Please advise immediatly on how we may assist you in your efforts to inform the public. Any suggestions or contacts you can provide us in filing complaints with the appropraite officials would be greatly appreciated.
You may contact our Director of PumaPac.org, Darragh Murphy at murphy@pumapac.org.
Very truly yours,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This is a good read from Allegre’s Corner regarding the misdirected anger towards Hillary.
Alegre :: When Hate and Revenge Overrule Reason and Results
Worse yet are the claims that she’s gone back to her “abuser” in her support for the top of the ticket. Believe it or not, people who once supported Hillary’s historic run for the White House are now comparing her to a battered wife who is returning to her abuser and asking for abuse. When I read that I was beyond disgusted – and for a brief moment I felt the same rage toward those who are attacking her now. This latest and lowest of attacks on Hillary is right out of GOP playbook – it could have come from Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. Face it – this is as low-down as any of the attacks coming out of the extreme right’s noise machine folks, and yet we’re hearing this garbage from so-called feminists who are so pissed that Hillary backed someone they hate more than words can describe, that they’ve turned vicious on her.
Hate – what a powerful and destructive force. Hate for the man who beat Hillary to the White House this year has turned her former supporters on her to the point where they’re claiming she’s weak or calculating, instead of the public servant we all know her to be. How did they reach this point? How can they justify what they’re calling Hillary now?
More importantly, how did Hillary go from the most qualified candidate with the best ideas and the strongest record, to our Joan of Arc – our standard bearer in all things feminist? She never took on that role in this campaign and I honestly don’t think that’s anything she ever wanted to take on. Why in the hell should she walk away from her one chance to bring relief to people to make some of her former supporters happy? I’m sorry folks – that ain’t gonna happen.
It’s as if these people can’t let go of the anger and hate long enough to see why Hillary backed the top of the ticket. They demand that she be their standard-bearer of feminism and rage – that she leave the party she and Bill helped build up and start shouting from the outside. All the while, they’re forgetting that Hillary has never been that. She didn’t get into this race because she’s a woman – she got into it because she knew in her heart (just as we know) that she was the most qualified candidate out there. That she could get results if given the job.
These demands that she throw away her chance to make a difference are (IMHO) just as sexist as anything else that’s been thrown at her so far. Because she’s a woman she’s expected to walk out – to give up her life’s work to appease others. She’s expected to don the cloak, grab our banner and ride into battle on a suicide mission to make a point. Not her point – our point. I think we all know that’s not going to happen – there’s too much work to be done yet.
Even after losing the nomination in one of the most sexist and hateful campaigns ever, she was able to set aside her personal feelings about what happened and keep working for those who feel invisible. She’s still fighting to give a voice to the voiceless and a small bit of power to the powerless out there. She wants to get RESULTS for the 47 million uninsured. She wants to get that equal pay law signed into law. She wants to stop and reverse global warming with green collar jobs. She wants to stop the foreclosures. She wants to get all that done and more and she knows the only way to do that is to be the best Senator she can be while building support for her causes from within the party (and I have no doubt that she’ll get it done). Those who are attacking her can’t seem to get their hate-filled heads and hearts around the fact that she won’t get ANYTHING done if she’s on the outside of Congress banging on the glass doors.
Rage doesn’t get you anywhere when it comes to helping others. Reason and a well thought-out plan do. And Hillary’s got all that going on and more. She’s got more than enough to deal with in her fight for equal pay and health care reform. The last thing she needs is this betrayal and rage from people who once supported her in our fight for what’s right. She gets enough of that shite from the extreme right and from those who would try to block her efforts from within her own party.
This isn’t about how hurt we all feel. This isn’t about how we think she sold us out on our values and goals. People are putting their goals and values on her and they never have and never will fit. She’s about results. People are dying (like my dad did) for lack of health care. People are dying in Iraq when they should be brought home to their loved ones. She could give a shit about someone’s hurt feelings and I’m right there with her. There are more important things to worry about than someone’s hurt feelings, dammit. There’s too much work to be done yet and chasing our tails over things we can’t change is a waste of time and energy.
Besides, getting results and helping people are the best kind of revenge – a dish that’s always best served cold.

Veterans Day is called Remembrance Day in Canada. Never been here before for it. Really big deal. There is parades to the city’s cenotaph and everything stops for two minutes at 11:00. I never noticed much ceremony at home but will be watching it here. I have a loner wheelchair so we may go to the cenotaph for the outdoor ceremony.
Now down to business. Prowl done. Is their anyone else we can send the same letter to?
KarenWI, I hope the nose is ok today after your slip up yesterday. I should be able to get a walking cast in about two weeks. This is good because I can’t use two crutches with the arm in a cast too. Just sitting here with my one finger typing and hoping typos are minimal. I really checked the letter before I sent it out.
What I have been doing some of is placing comments on MSM sites. Just to let them know PUMA’S are still here. I hope the info connects with people who read it, but I get the PUMA part in first.

I am also doing SLY’s prowl to the media about the Heritage Foundation demanding and FEC investigation of Obama’s campaign Finances if anyone would like to join me , here is the info ;
“If Americans are ever to trust the electoral process again, a full investigation and audit of Obama and ACORN are an absolute necessity,” the foundation declared in an essay issued today.
http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/heritage_audit_obama/2008/11/04/147551.html
“A Bulgarian is among the 118 people, who made illegal donations for the campaign of the US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, an investigation, conducted by Newsmax website and a private investigative firm headed by a former CIA operations officer showed.
Under federal law, only U.S. citizens or permanent residents may donate to federal political campaigns. It is illegal for the campaigns to accept money knowingly from foreign donors.
The Bulgarian has signed himself as Stamen S. and wrote his address in Sofia. He donated USD 170.”

Imagine that. Hennepin County went for Franken by 50 – 36%. Even more amazing, Franken has picked up votes in every “surprise” they’ve found. And Coleman has lost votes in every “surprise” they’ve found. What are the odds that all of the “discrepencies” would be in the favor of one candidate?
Good news: Only 207 more votes to go, and they can declare Franken the winner and certify the vote!

greenfun,
thank you for posting allegre’s piece.
Dr Long infuriated me with her article about Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. As another Puma mentioned in an email to me, Dr LOng was on TV at least 5 times and never once mentioned caucus fraud… Dr long had her part in owearefuckednow’s “win”.
jenniforhillary 11.11.08 at 10:56 am
At GREENFUN…
Hillary is a traitor, but not to the Feminist Movement but to America. And to me. She said she was never going to stand down and she did. She said she was never going to stop fighting and she did. AND, for the record, SHE AND BILL FOR TWO YEARS HAVE BEEN TELLING ANYONE WHO WOULD LISTEN EXACTLY WHAT PUMA KNOWS AND HAS BEEN TRYING TO DISSEMINATE.
PUMA has already discussed Country before Party AND how the two political parties (Dems and Repubs) use us AND how this year the DEMS showed that they too possess some of the evil they have always said was singularly owned by the Repubs. THUS, to say that Hillary is loyal and smart and fine because she chose to protect herself and the DEMS and left US and America out to hang….NOPE, not gonna drink that kool aid either.
See, Hillary is going to be fine. She chose self protection over history-making, she chose status quo over avant garde, and she chose wrong over right. She chose NOBAMA over us. And this will never change.
At this point, and if any of you can argue from a point of KNOWING please do so, I happen to KNOW that the Clintons are dead meat in Washington. They are not on the B list, not even on any lists. They will not be on any committees, and they will not get invited to any parties. They are out, and HE is in. And ALL OF THIS might have been prevented if, in Denver, she had grabbed a live mike and told the truth.
Sorry, but I don’t give a damn if Hillary is or is not a feminist, I am just sad as hell that I don’t think she is an American. And you can pillory me or condemn me or throw me to the wolves, but ANYONE who has knowledge of THAT ONE and tells people to vote for him is not my friend, my countrywoman, or my Hillary. And, all this coming from someone who would have put my life on the line to stand up, protect, defend, or support this woman….
The ONE thing I will say in her favor is that should she ever have an explanation that I could swallow, I would do so. Perhaps not even because it is right, but because living with the knowledge that she sold me out hurts like hell. I would rather drink the kool aid, I just can’t….

A good soldier, I am not. But I decided to honor our Veterans by fighting in my own way for the freedom they put their lives on the line for. First, I wrote a letter to our Supervisor of Elections about my experiences as a poll worker during this election.
Next, I am going to draft a legal document to file in the state district court challenging BO’s citizenship and qualifications to be elected.

I hear you. Are you in the military too? I ask because of the statement about putting your life on the line. I am sorry I don’t know if you have already shared that. I don’t get to catch up on the blog anymore. I remember when we first started, I read every post and comment.
As for HRC, I still love her. I do think that many people struggle with whether to fight from within the system or fight on the outside. Some really believe that they will be more effective within and will not be co-opted. I suppose I am not angry at HRC because she is only human and a political survivor. You expected her to have more inner strength to fight from the outside, but she is too entrenched in the political games.
This is my take on it. I don’t feel the same way you do, but I don’t think you should be attacked for feeling that way. She was our hope for change, and she let us down.
I do think that we can’t spend too much time being angry and attacking women like HRC and LLong, though. We have to channel the anger into productive speech.

And on this Veteran’s Day, and until Obama absolutely presents verifiable proof on the issues of his birth certificate, African citizenship, and Indonesian citizenship, and the many other unanswered questions still pending, I shall consider Obama as an Enemy of the State and a Usurper of the Constitution of the United States.

Hey Dragonfly!! Good to see you and you’re welcome!
Let’s all face it. There’s a lot of finger-pointing going on and circular firing squads out the ying-yang after this election, but the truth is George W. Bush is to blame for the results. Unlike us, most Americans weren’t glued to every political development and could have cared less. They didn’t know that Obama was selected because they weren’t paying attention. They were willing to overlook (or in most cases, ignore) all of Obama’s negatives because all they knew is that George W. Bush has been a disaster for this nation in every conceivable way and, identifying McCain with him, they voted accordingly.
My best friend and I spoke for the first time in months the day before yesterday. I was shocked to find that she knows absolutely nothing about Obama, yet she fell totally head over heels for him. This is a very intelligent woman whom I’ve known since 1988 when we met in the service in Germany. Until recently, our political views were totally in sync. She wasn’t even a lifelong Democrat, having switched parties in 1998 after being a lifelong Republican. Our relationship took a downward spiral over Hillary. For some reason, and it could have been latent Republican tendencies, she despised Hillary. I found this deeply troubling coming from a woman who I’ve listened to for years blaming men for every evil on earth and pontificating on how much better the world would be if women were in charge. Although she could never give a substantive reason as to why, she was adamant that Hillary should not be president. Needless to say, we had many heated arguments and our friendship deteriorated to the point where we were no longer speaking.
Our most recent conversation was interesting. She actually listened and didn’t scream at me and call me a racist when I explained to her my fears of an upcoming Obama presidency. I think I may have scored some points, but only time will tell.

I will be e-mailing them and asking them to support Rep. Broun instead of crawling under their desks and crying or joining in on bashing him.
The problem is, the head of the RNC may have no idea what a National Civilian Security Force is and that Obama called for one in Denver in July 2008. Can’t assume he will know what I am talking about.
I will email by Republican congresswoman, too. She has never been helpful before and doubt if she even reads my letters. I sent her a letter asking her how she voted on the Global Poverty Act (passed the House by voice vote) and wrote back telling me her position on energy. Huh!

DancesWithPumas I believe when you use an author’s words (journalist) you have to give “credit” to them regarding the source. Once something is made public, to my knowledge, you can use it. If you use an excerpt, then you will still have to give authorship credits.
So, it may be helpful in the future to show Title/Date/Journalist, etc. I believe we usually do this.

JenniforHillary:
I agree with you completely about Hillary Clinton. She should have stood her ground and she should NEVER EVER have campaigned for that thug. I e-mailed her as much, but of course, got back the standard “thank you for contacting me.” She couldn’t have actually read what I wrote, or she wouldn’t have been thanking me. I still have a lot of anger at her, but dwelling on her failed campaign is a waste of energy. If she suddenly stood back up and walked away from the Democratic Party to fight for American women, I’m not sure how I would react. Part of me would be overjoyed, while another part would still be angry, and very unwilling to trust. Oh, well, the Hillary Clinton thing is over. There are plenty of tough, smart women in this country and we need to get behind them. Getting a woman into the White House, as something other than a wife, or one of the servants, is going to be like running a gauntlet. Remember in the movie “Last of the Mohicans,” how the main male character struggled through the line of Hurons, being beaten and abused the entire way? That’s us, that’s Clinton, that’s Palin. It shouldn’t be that way, but it is. The question is, are we going to do it? Or will we scuttle back to our safe place, like Clinton?

Look i confront these people much in the spirit of Oboma saying get in their faces. I usually wait for the right moment to bring up the following.
Obama voted for banning guns, ammo, second admentment rights, carry laws etc. 100% of the time every chance he got. Do you think would be any different because he simply said he wouldnt. The truth to this matter is simple. He said anything, promised everything and lied to everyone in order to get elected. You guys where just to stupid to see it. Thanks for your vote to ruin america. airforcehusker,
You’re right of course about getting in their face, but given the demographics where I live, I have to choose my battles carefully.
On that note… Yesterday evening as my son was driving home from work, an AA man pulled up behind him and began blowing his horn. My son looked in the rear-view mirror and noticed the man was shooting birds at him and mouthing something he, of course, could not hear. When they pulled up to a traffic light, the man pulled very close to my son’s bumper and began revving his engine. As my son continued toward home, it became obvious the man intended to follow him. Not wanting to bring the man to the house, he tried turning off onto a side road. The man followed still blowing his horn and shooting birds. My son eventually turned around at a school, still being followed, and headed home. He called me on his cell phone and explained what was happening. I told him to come home and I would meet him outside with my gun. Apparently, the man got wary when he saw my son making the call because he kept on going when he turned into our neighborhood.
Why did this happen? Well, my son has a McCain/Palin sticker on his back windshield. They can’t even win gracefully…

By Judah Benjamin, Guest Author
OK, Folks,
Some of us are former (?) Democrats, some of us are moderate (?) Republicans and some of us are neither. We all have differing views on subjects like George W Bush and US Foreign and Domestic Policy. These views are not going to change any time soon, if ever, and there is no point arguing about them. We do agree on certain things, the Constitution must be preserved and defended, Washington needs to be cleaned up, the economic problems of the Country, Governmental and otherwise need to be addressed and mitigated and our freedoms must be preserved. We all agree that Obama is going to impact negatively on all of these concerns. Most of us would agree that both major parties are broken beyond all reasonable hope of repair and that Obama is a symptom of that. Were the country not in the equivalent of a state of clinical depression Obama would not just have won the popular vote, which he did (though how much of that vote was fraudulent we will never know). The biggest single factor in his win was the fact that approximately 15% of Republicans did not vote at all. In effect it would not have mattered how many Democrats crossed over, that short fall screwed the pooch because there was no way enough Democrats were ever going to cross over to offset that.
So if you are a Republican you should ask yourself if you are in the right party and if you were/are a Democrat you already know you weren’t.
It has happened before in the history of the nation and the result was the formation of a new party, one of which was the Republican Party, so don’t say it cannot succeed. The Bull Moose Party got pretty close to success too and many of us would have voted Bull Moose back in the day. We need to start the construction of a new party right now to take back the Congress and the White House for sanity.
there is much more to this article.

After 9 months, and after devoting thousands of hours to the administration
of this forum, it’s time to draw the curtain. I hope those who participated
in the forum during the election found the experience productive. It was
like a rollercoast, that’s for sure. Now, however, it’s time for me to take

different direction to be more inclusive of all people, regardless of

That is great news ! I would love to see Palin appoint herself.
I did the Prowl, and started thinking about the comparisons to Hitler and Obama. That reminded me I received an e-mail which stated Hitler and Napoleon both had one testicle.
I wonder if Obama only has one testicle and if so, is it the Left testicle because he leans that way.
Gird your loins, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

speaking of funny, from email:
Barrack Obama, Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey were flying on Obama’s
private plane. Obama looked at Oprah, chuckled and said, ‘You know, I
could throw a $1,000 bill out of the window right now and make somebody very
happy .
Oprah shrugged her shoulders and replied, ‘I could throw ten
$100 bills out of the window and make ten people very happy.
Michelle added, That being the case, I could throw one hundred $10 bills out of
the window and make a hundred people very happy.’
Hearing their exchange the pilot rolled his eyes and said to his co-pilot,
Such big-shots back there. I could throw all of their a…..s out of the window
and make 56 million people very happy.’

i would suggest that if you want to own a gun please find a good range in your community and go there and be honest to the people and say you never shot a gun, owned a gun etc. Find the one person that you are comfortable with and have them go over the basics, Do not buy a gun until you find the caliber you are comfortable with shooting with. They will walk you through the process.
In the end you will be a knowledgeable gun owner, who is trained, and can handle their weapon. It will be a good experience for you and i am sure you will come back to this board months from now telling me that i was right. Bush Irked by Leak on Private Talk With Obama Over Trade, Aid to Automakers
Administration aides say President Bush is unhappy that his discussion Monday with President-elect Barack Obama was leaked and cast as a horse trade between signing a second economic stimulus bill in exchange for congressional passage of the Colombia Free Trade deal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Ok, now we know he cant keep his mouth shut, again. He gets his first meeting with Bush, and he wants more bailout money,oh yeah,
he’s really great for the economy! He wants to talk with Iran, but doesnt want free trade with columbia. hmmmm…this guy doesnt even
know the smart questions to ask, that is the problem.
Murphy, of course all of those “creeps” who Obama hung with are now
feeling free to come out, that proves, he never threw them under
the bus, and they knew it.
Believe you me, there are 58 million or more people in this great country who cant stand the new president elect…I remember Kissenger saying how Palin showed her intelligence by asking smart
questions, he didnt say what they were and neither did she. That is
what wise people when they get free time for council, they learn
and then they keep their mouth shut because it is privileged information. NOt Obama, or his people oh no, they just run out
in the public and spout it all out. Is anyone starting to see
Although, One has already made a shotgun purchase, the oldest is a Fed employee with a Treasury Dept cell number to call if threatened, tuffy, the middle one is self reliant, and BabyBoy, the college student lives in Texas. From a survivalist mindset.
First and foremost,
Water #1 for your storage and supplies. Keep as many bulk packages on hand as possible. Buy at least two camping water purification units and filters and keep them handy. More importantly buy ones that are easy to us but reliable. Ask reliable salepeople at rei, dicks sporting good etc.
Store food #2, buy bulk can goods when they go on sale, and when i say bulk i am talking cases at a time. Keep your products rotated for freshness. Be a farmer and learn how to plant. Store as many seeds as possible in your storage and keep them stored in a ziplock bag.
Matches & propane gas and lanterns#3 are needed for cooking and other energy sources. Also through in a generator if you can afford one. These are just the basics to get started.
Prepare for the worst hope for the best is my motto
i want to extend and open invite to anyone on this board thinking about a gun, you will be surprised but what you find in your local gun range. But like all places of business find one that you are comfortable with.
Go in and tell the owner you are new at this and would like help in learning to shoot and finding something that matches your taste.
We are all good people and stewards and love to teach others about our pashions. You will find a honest family of gun owners and we will help you become more comfortable, better knowledgable and more importantly and legitimate and responsible gunowner.
Just wanted to say one thing to all “Merchant” Marines:
My father was a Merchant Marine and he always seemed somewhat embarrassed – like he wasn’t a REAL Marine.
Not long before he passed away we talked about his Marine service and being on a merchant ship – even traveling to China. He told me that other Marines didn’t consider them in the same “Class” as “fighting Marines.
Then I watched a PBS documentary on Merchant Marines and discovered that my father was correct – that in Corp circles, Merchant Marines had never been credited for the support services they had long provided all of the branches of the Military.
What I learned was that not only were they responsible for supplying all of the food and ammunitions for our armed forces, but the travel overseas was dangerous. Many merchant ships had been attacked because they were supply ships to the units in the field. Eventually, they had to be provided escorts of other ships to get through.
When I actually saw what life was like on those merchant ships and the pride those young men had in doing their part in support of their “brothers” – and regardless of what branch their cargo was supplying – I wished my father could have seen it. He was so young at the time. From his perspective on the ship – he just never saw himself as defending his country or risking his life like “Real Marines on the ground.”
I saw how many lost their lives on those Merchant ships and saw it from an entirely differently angle – I am always amazed at the courage of any soldier – no matter what branch, division or rank they serving in.
SO, A SHOUT OUT TO ALL MERCHANT MARINES!
Iran successfully test fired a new missile Monday in a fresh effort to enhance the country’s military might, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported.
The Samen missile, which was reportedly designed and manufactured in Iran, was shot during an Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps drill in the border city of Marivan, Kurdistan, Fars reported. No other information on the missile was immediately available.
While Iran claims that its ballistic missiles — which can strike targets more than 1,200 miles away — are for defensive purposes, Tehran has warned that it would strike American bases in the Middle East in the event of an attack from the U.S. or Israel.
But Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Friday that Tel Aviv is “convinced that Iran continues to try to build a nuclear weapon,” according to Fars.
Murphy (and anyone else thinking about gun ownership),
The advice here from airforcehusker and snowtigerredux is spot on. I would also like to add my own personal philosophy on parenting and gun-ownership. As some of you know, I had an incident early in my son’s life where I found him sitting in a crib playing with a loaded .22 revolver while visiting my brother. This was so shocking and devastating that it prevented me from owning a gun until my son became an adult.
My son, who is now 24, and I have discussed this at length and come to an agreement that small children should not know that their parent owns a gun. If they know, natural curiosity will make them search for it. The gun should be hidden in a place where a child could not possibly find it and it should be under a lock of some type.
This is just my personal advice so please don’t take it like I’m trying to tell anyone what to do.
antifish,
as a man who grew up around a gun, we were always taught a few things, First responsibility, ammo and guns are not stored in the same place, guns are never loaded, guns are never in reach of kids, and most of all you teach kids that life is precious and you only use a gun if this is the last resort in a bad situation.
For those of you with kids and want to have a gun for protection but are concerned about safety remember the above this in itself prevents the majority of problems that occur with guns. A good hand gun case that i would recommend is the safe type which matches your finger patterns, Easy to use and rapid access but most of all hard to get into by your children if they happen to try.
Speaking of guns….Friday, November 07, 2008
Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign slogan, “the audacity of hope,” should have instead been “the audacity of deceit.” After months of telling the American people that he supports the Second Amendment, and only hours after being declared the president-elect, the Obama transition team website announced an agenda taken straight from the anti-gun lobby–four initiatives designed to ban guns and drive law-abiding firearm manufacturers and dealers out of business:
“Making the expired federal assault weapons ban permanent.” Perhaps no other firearm issue has been more dishonestly portrayed by gun prohibitionists. Notwithstanding their predictions that the ban’s expiration in 2004 would bring about the end of civilization, for the last four years the nation’s murder rate has been lower than anytime since the mid-1960s. Studies for Congress, the Congressional Research Service, the National Institute of Justice, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found no evidence that gun prohibition or gun control reduces crime. Guns that were affected by the ban are used in only a tiny fraction of violent crime-about 35 times as many people are murdered without any sort of firearm (knives, bare hands, etc.), as with “assault weapons.” Obama says that “assault weapons” are machine guns that “belong on foreign battlefields,” but that is a lie; the guns are only semi-automatic, and they are not used by a military force anywhere on the planet.
“Repeal the Tiahrt Amendment.” The amendment–endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police–prohibits the release of federal firearm tracing information to anyone other than a law enforcement agency conducting a bona fide criminal investigation. Anti-gun activists oppose the restriction, because it prevents them from obtaining tracing information and using it in frivolous lawsuits against law-abiding firearm manufacturers. Their lawsuits seek to obtain huge financial judgments against firearm manufacturers when a criminal uses a gun to inflict harm, even though the manufacturers have complied with all applicable laws.
“Closing the gun show loophole.” There is no “loophole.” Under federal law, a firearm dealer must conduct a background check on anyone to whom he sells a gun, regardless of where the sale takes place. A person who is not a dealer may sell a gun from his personal collection without conducting a check. Gun prohibitionists claim that many criminals obtain guns from gun shows, though the most recent federal survey of convicted felons put the figure at only 0.7 percent. They also claim that non-dealers should be required to conduct checks when selling guns at shows, but the legislation they support goes far beyond imposing that lone requirement. In fact, anti-gun members of Congress voted against that limited measure, holding out for a broader bill intended to drive shows out of business.
“Making guns in this country childproof.” “Childproof” is a codeword for a variety of schemes designed to prevent the sale of firearms by imposing impossible or highly expensive design requirements, such as biometric shooter-identification systems. While no one opposes keeping children safe, the fact is that accidental firearm-related deaths among children have decreased 86 percent since 1975, even as the numbers of children and guns have risen dramatically. Today, the chances of a child being killed in a firearm accident are less than one in a million.
I might add a few things to that excellent advice.
A gun is ALWAYS considered loaded.
NEVER point a gun in the direction of anything you arent comfortable with being shot.
Always point your gun DOWN when not being aimed.
Never point it upward, an accidental discharge that fires upward will eventually come back down.
Forget everything you have ever seen in the movies.
The best method to prevent children from “playing’ with a gun, depending on their age, is to, under YOUR supervision, let them see the gun and if old enough take a safety class. It eliminates the curiosity factor.
Dont be ill or afraid, You probably feel that way because of false expetactions that you might have. Go to a range and find someone you are comfortable with. I wish you were closer to california becuase when i get there in april i would love to teach you the basic. Once you go through a box of rounds and fell comfortable with the action of the weapon and how it reacts to you pulling the trigger it will become second nature to you.
I would even bet in the end you are going to think to yourself what the hell was the problem with this shooting thing, this is nothing and i cant believe i didnt do this earlier.
Good advice snow, i was just putting some simple basics but i think you covered the rest. To everyone out there and i may sound like a broken record but get involved, If you dont own a weapon simply find a good range and ask for lessons and go shooting. If the only thing you do is find a way to defend yourself or your family than guess what you are going to be light years ahead of everyone else who thought the government was going to protect them and remember this is the obama government, nuff said on that,
One final thought remember the LA riots, and katrina, people who were armed protected their families and property, cops simply ran and left people to defend themselves.
We have a lock – it looks like a bicycle lock. If you have kids, it would be a good idea to consider this. I am going to take lessons to be more comfortable with it.
Something we determined 20 years ago was to never be caught in ‘possession’ of a firearm. For one thing, if you have a gun in your posession it greatly increases the likelihood you will actually USE the weapon. Taking any life, especially human life, is not a pleasant feeling. 10 years ago, I came closer to doing so again than at any time in the last 40 years. So, although I will,in most cases, always have access to firearms, I never keep one in my house anymore.
This is a good read from Allegre’s Corner regarding the misdirected anger towards Hillary.
Alegre :: When Hate and Revenge Overrule Reason and Results
Worse yet are the claims that she’s gone back to her “abuser” in her support for the top of the ticket. Believe it or not, people who once supported Hillary’s historic run for the White House are now comparing her to a battered wife who is returning to her abuser and asking for abuse. When I read that I was beyond disgusted – and for a brief moment I felt the same rage toward those who are attacking her now. This latest and lowest of attacks on Hillary is right out of GOP playbook – it could have come from Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. Face it – this is as low-down as any of the attacks coming out of the extreme right’s noise machine folks, and yet we’re hearing this garbage from so-called feminists who are so pissed that Hillary backed someone they hate more than words can describe, that they’ve turned vicious on her.
Hate – what a powerful and destructive force. Hate for the man who beat Hillary to the White House this year has turned her former supporters on her to the point where they’re claiming she’s weak or calculating, instead of the public servant we all know her to be. How did they reach this point? How can they justify what they’re calling Hillary now?
More importantly, how did Hillary go from the most qualified candidate with the best ideas and the strongest record, to our Joan of Arc – our standard bearer in all things feminist? She never took on that role in this campaign and I honestly don’t think that’s anything she ever wanted to take on. Why in the hell should she walk away from her one chance to bring relief to people to make some of her former supporters happy? I’m sorry folks – that ain’t gonna happen.
It’s as if these people can’t let go of the anger and hate long enough to see why Hillary backed the top of the ticket. They demand that she be their standard-bearer of feminism and rage – that she leave the party she and Bill helped build up and start shouting from the outside. All the while, they’re forgetting that Hillary has never been that. She didn’t get into this race because she’s a woman – she got into it because she knew in her heart (just as we know) that she was the most qualified candidate out there. That she could get results if given the job.
These demands that she throw away her chance to make a difference are (IMHO) just as sexist as anything else that’s been thrown at her so far. Because she’s a woman she’s expected to walk out – to give up her life’s work to appease others. She’s expected to don the cloak, grab our banner and ride into battle on a suicide mission to make a point. Not her point – our point. I think we all know that’s not going to happen – there’s too much work to be done yet.
Even after losing the nomination in one of the most sexist and hateful campaigns ever, she was able to set aside her personal feelings about what happened and keep working for those who feel invisible. She’s still fighting to give a voice to the voiceless and a small bit of power to the powerless out there. She wants to get RESULTS for the 47 million uninsured. She wants to get that equal pay law signed into law. She wants to stop and reverse global warming with green collar jobs. She wants to stop the foreclosures. She wants to get all that done and more and she knows the only way to do that is to be the best Senator she can be while building support for her causes from within the party (and I have no doubt that she’ll get it done). Those who are attacking her can’t seem to get their hate-filled heads and hearts around the fact that she won’t get ANYTHING done if she’s on the outside of Congress banging on the glass doors.
Rage doesn’t get you anywhere when it comes to helping others. Reason and a well thought-out plan do. And Hillary’s got all that going on and more. She’s got more than enough to deal with in her fight for equal pay and health care reform. The last thing she needs is this betrayal and rage from people who once supported her in our fight for what’s right. She gets enough of that shite from the extreme right and from those who would try to block her efforts from within her own party.
This isn’t about how hurt we all feel. This isn’t about how we think she sold us out on our values and goals. People are putting their goals and values on her and they never have and never will fit. She’s about results. People are dying (like my dad did) for lack of health care. People are dying in Iraq when they should be brought home to their loved ones. She could give a shit about someone’s hurt feelings and I’m right there with her. There are more important things to worry about than someone’s hurt feelings, dammit. There’s too much work to be done yet and chasing our tails over things we can’t change is a waste of time and energy.
Besides, getting results and helping people are the best kind of revenge – a dish that’s always best served cold.
Fascist Marxist Dictator.
This Congressman is saying EXACTLY what I have been afraid of, and what I have been screaming about for near a year now. It hasn’t just been a hunch all this time, it’s hundreds of hours of reading and researching and having multiple multiple arrows pointing at what is too hard to believe but what is right the hell in front of everyone’s faces. It may take Obama years to do it or it may happen overnight, but I am telling you this guy is a *hard core* marxist, megalomaniac, filled with hatred for our nation and our culture.
-Total control of media–enter more O-propaganda
-Obama’s civilian army
-Banning guns
You can guess what next.
I am telling you. And if you don’t believe it, do some research instead of listening to people who say, “Nahhh, that could never happen, he’s really like THIS, not THAT.”
NO. NO. NO.
And if these people knew anything anyway, they would know all about the people who raised Obama, and who boosted him, and all the different organizations he was involved with, or his “religion” for two decades, etc. Or just what he says, c’mon. Entirely Marxist. BIG red flags. I know people casually say this about democrats all the time: socialists/ communists blah blah, but this is it.
From my mid to late teens until my earliest 20′s I<— had a marxist and socialistic worldview, and even slightly anarchistic. I am just warning you that he is not the benevolent type.
# 209 stoney,
The best prices are probably at Walmart for ammo. Get some, those two guns are common and the ammo is probably inexpensive. Also I think taking a gun class is great, you will not be afraid of them. My father made sure I could use a gun although I didn’t own one until he passed away.(a net of 43 guns)I sold most of them.I can’t imagine what hoops someone will have to go through to sell them once BO is in power. A friend of mine called guns “the great equalizer” when it came to the differences in the strength between man and woman. I always thought it was an odd phrase for a boyfriend to use.
I respect your pov but dissagree.
If someone acts in a manner that requires me to defend my self or another, with a potentially lethal action, I have a responsability to do so.
Not everyone has the capacity to act in such a situation and allowing a predator to continue on will inevitably, harm more people.
I remember years ago watching some talk show and an actress , I forget who, said “I would never use a gun on another human being, even it meant being raped. I would rather be raped than kill another person”
Thats nice. I wonder how the next victim of the rapist would feel?
Obama-Clinton drama takes new turn
Amie Parnes, Glenn Thrush – Tue Nov 11, 4:27 am ET
Michelle Obama wasn’t always an admirer of Hillary Clinton, but last Wednesday the soon-to-be first lady dialed up the former first lady for pointers on protecting her two young daughters from the media maelstrom of the White House.
“Michelle may not have loved the senator, but she always respected how the Clintons raised Chelsea,” said a person familiar with Clinton’s end of the call. “They need to talk. There just aren’t too many people who have shared that kind of experience.”
What do I see but an over the top rant by Allegre that is every bit as over the top as the women who are ‘trashing’ Hillary Clinton. How many times does Allegre use the word ‘hate’? That is ridicuous. There is lots of disappoinment and anger against Hillary’s decision to support BO, but hate, please! The excuse Allegre uses for Hillary’s decision to support BO is that if she stayed inside his campaign, she could influence the agenda. Well, how’s that going folks? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not angry at Hillary’s decision, but I am waiting to get some idea of what she was really thinking when she made her decision. In the meantime, I’m not going to hold it against her that she did not fall on her sword for us. Stop the over the top nonsense from both sides so we can move forward. Geesh!
jenniforhillary 11.11.08 at 2:06 pm
Well, Billie Jo, here’s the way I look at it.
We all try and keep each other informed here, because the news media sucks. And if you think that Hillary RETAINED power by selling us out, that is misinformation. And if you think she has any power left in Washington (mind you, I am saying WASHINGTON which means power re: her peers; I am not saying her people–which is America) you are wrong.
Washington is a small town and when you are out you are out. She and Bill are out. And if you would rather be in denial that is fine, but I have two close friends who work in Washington (one at a think tank and one for an actual politician) and they have between the two of them 30 years of washington insider experience. According to them, Hillary might not win re-election as Senator…
Am I happy. no. I haven’t been happy in a long time. But to wave her banner and say she still has power is embarassing to me. And I love you enough to say no she does not. she just does not.
How could she get her power back. Start being OLD hillary again. Start telling the truth. And start talking to us instead of for him. And maybe, just maybe, we could save each other. I am holding out hope and an olive branch forever…because I love her that much
I actually don’t want to talk about Hillary anymore. It makes me sad. I’m going to put her in my closet of friends I hope to have in my life again.
I’d much rather talk about Murphy or Dances or any woman doing anything. I’d like to thank our armed forces for risking and giving their lives for us. I’d like to say that I have so much respect for women in the military I don’t have words for it. And, I’d like to say that
Well, I have always been afraid of guns and personally owning one. Always afraid there could be an accident in the house or that a man could easily take it from me and use it against me, and also, I really really don’t want to hurt anyone or kill anyone, and also because I don’t have a good enough sense of protecting my life apparently.
Obama has a long history of being anti-gun. He’s filled out that famous questionnaire stating that he wanted to ban handguns, and he’s worked on the Joyce Foundation and a few other organizations which are notoriously anti-gun. (All these organizations have sub organizations like a web as well.) He’s very very tight with Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow/PUSH effort, and also Father Pfleger (who he gave over $200,000 in earmarks to) who has been arrested dozens of times for gun related protests in Chicago. Ayers and ALL of them hate our gun culture, etc. Also, obviously, back when the Weather Underground wanted to ‘take over’ our government to make a communist society, they feared the fact that Americans are armed. The whole point of our gun rights is so that some outsiders or bad person couldn’t take over the people. So, it’s a power of the people. I used to be anti-gun. No longer. I understand the importance of it now.
Re: Hillary
I think this is a complicated issue. I understand how Billie Jo feels because I too have great admiration for her, or maybe I should say had. I’m not really sure what I feel right now. I didn’t expect her to throw herself on the sword for me or any of us. However, I did expect her to do it for herself.
I think I fall more in line with Jenni. It breaks my heart to not trust and admire in Hillary but I feel she degraded herself in all of this.
Everyone can attack me for my opinion but you have to look at things how they are and not how you want them to be.
One saying that always holds true is “It is what it is”.
So, my point is I’m disappointed with her because I wanted her to stand up and say “Hey f**k you BO and all of the other sexist pigs out there.
I also feel like Jenni, Hillary knows how dangerous he is and yet campaigned for him. That doesn’t sit well with me.
Oh and of course, to my daddy John, a union machinist who tried six times to join the military and carried all 6 of his rejected attempts…(All military rejected him and others like him) and who asked my mama. Well, what the hell am I going to tell my kids about my not fighting the Nazis?)
She said she always told him: You are going to tell them you did fight the Nazis you tooled the guns and tanks and airplanes that defeated these people!) To you daddy..thanks for being an expert machinist and for doing it right!
PS I still have all his draft cards with the lowest draft designation each time..He carried them in his wallet for years!
Michelle Obama wasn’t always an admirer of Hillary Clinton, but last Wednesday the soon-to-be first lady dialed up the former first lady for pointers on protecting her two young daughters from the media maelstrom of the White House.
“Michelle may not have loved the senator, but she always respected how the Clintons raised Chelsea,” said a person familiar with Clinton’s end of the call. “They need to talk. There just aren’t too many people who have shared that kind of experience
My my my well dear Hillary tell Mo to take the kids and herself and go play IN TRAFFIC!!
OH YEAH, by the way,
THANK YOU ALL VETERANS!!!!!!
jenniforhillary 11.11.08 at 2:18 pm
billijo…and what makes you an expert? Have you spoken to someone who has information regarding the power or lack of power of the Clintons at this point, or is it merely conjecture? I am asking because as you tear me down I want to understand is your weapon hope or actual information…because if you have actual information I would like to know…
oh, and in addition to NOT being on the panel re: health care could you point to another example of her ‘power’ in washington at this point???
I really REALLY hate when women tear each other down for NO REASON. AND, for the record, holding women ACCOUNTABLE is not tearing them down it is simply holding women accountable. If we CANNOT hold women to the same standards as men, we become our own worst enemy.
snowtigerredux Yes, we do disagree from time to time. I think most of us here disagree with one another occasionally. Last night I posted an older article about FEMA prison/concentration camps in America. Murphy said it wasn’t true. I disagree with that. No way is the government going to allow the most heavily armed civilian population on eart to run around with weapons in a state of anarchic revolution. The will dispose of them or incarcerate them. Also, most people don’t know that FEMA is a United Nations Agency. These places do exist. In some cases, as with Sea Tac Airport they hve other purposes for the moment but can be converted quite rapidly. In other cases, they are places, no longer in use,but available if needed.
As to firearms, there is alot I’d rather not go into. But I do know what it feels like to take a life. The idea of thousands of people going out to buy guns, who have never been trained in their use scares the hell out of me. They are like a last resort scenario.
This whole conversation of guns, taking life and rape conjure memories I’d rather keep buried in the past. It’s depressing.
And just what the HELL does being a republican or a democrat have to do with buying or owning a gun. Thank God I am neither. Repubs and dems are just the two sides of the same coin.
jenniforhillary 11.11.08 at 2:20 pm
Thanks Sheila…I think many agree with us, but perhaps are scared of Alegre and Billie Jo…
I am never scared of such things…never.
My Repost from last night — just some thoughts on the bc issue.
Sorry, this is not about the current subject of guns but I thought it might be a reminder re:the bc issue. I feel that if nobo is allowed to get into office then it will be alot harder to nail him. One other note is that everyone who “hid” his citizenship (if indeed he is not a natural born citizen) will also be held accountable and charged, which means it could halt any dems taking office or any dem congresspeople continuing in their positions.
The thing is, almost all of the country does NOT know about the bc issue. If small town America, conservatives and disgruntled dems KNEW about the bc and the very good possibility that this has and will be a constitutional crisis then I believe those people would go after the issue, especially those who so strongly support our country and constitution. But you can’t fight about it, if you don’t know about it!
I also think that MANY people, if they found out they were duped so badly, would become royally P.O.’ed and also fight for proof of Nobo’s citizenship.
One thing I learned at the Dem convention is that we, Pumas and others worked so very hard to get the superdelegates to vote for Hillary, but the reality is the only ones who REALLY counted were the regular delegates from each state. THEY were the ones who made the vote happen or not. Our difficulty was finding out who those state delegates were and getting info. to them so they were armed and ready as to what might happen at the convention. So, my point is that sometimes it is another level of people who actually will have a much bigger impact than the ones we actually think it might be. Yes, higher government officials can intervene in the process to halt it but get the “people” around the country fired up and they will make sure the bc comes to light AND the constitution is upheld.
Finally, the issue with Bush. Bush could sign some order, I am sure, if there is a constitutional crisis at hand and stop the process until everything is indeed verified. I know he has the authority to do this to intevene and halt the process if a war should break out.
All of this of course is IMOP!!
CJ
One more thing, the way that the dems are going to try and get around it is to say that if he isn’t sworn in, there would be major rioting. Well, the choice is, I guess, living with the short-term implications of riots or the long-term implications of our constitution meaning nothing. Oh, and btw, those who hacked into the govt. computers (Chinese, I think), probably also know whether or not nobo is legitimately qualified or not and every international legal document will be meaningless and they will know it! I say, I want to keep the constitution intact and we need to fight this before it is too late.
DragonFly:..and another personal memory of the women who stayed behind: My brother was born on December 13, 1941..one week after Pearl Harbor..my mother said she was sitting in a movie downtown…get this..Sgt York, the story of the famous ole southern boy who was a Congressional Medal of Honor winner in the first World War..when they stopped the movie, turned on the lights and announced that Pearl Harbor had been bombed…one story of the courage of all women who stayed home and worked or volunteered throughout that war..she served as a Civil Defense Leader as did my daddy and she collected cans, made aluminan foil balls, recycled rubber and ever other manner of materials to send back for use in the building of machines, etc…and planted as did so many war vegetable gardens, and suffered graciosly as all did, in my view, the deprivations of rationing…
CAN WE DO NO LESS DURING THIS SERIOUS TIME AS THESE OUR BELOVED MAMAS AND DADDYS AND UNCLES DID…? FIGHT. PROTEST.
WE SHALL…AGAINST ANYONE AND ANYTHING. THAT DARE TO ATTEMPT TO DILUTE THIS COUNTRY AND EVERY ASPECT OF OUR FREEDOMS. FIGHT TO HONOR THE GREATEST GENERATION AND WE , YOU SHALL BECOME TRUE AND HONORABLE CHILDREN OF OUR LOVED ONES WHO TAUGHT US WHAT FREEDOM IS AND HOW WORTHY IT IS TO PROTECT.
Murphy: Thanks for the prowl.
Hello notanegghead. I’m an AA, too. Sometimes wish I could shake our people silly until they wake up!
Billyjo
Agree with U completely!
Seattlegirl
Reaching women with issues of media sexism and getting women into government crosses all age, race and class bounderies. NOW is now irrelevant since they have stopped tackling sexism and have acquiesced to the race trumps gender at all times paradigm. They’ve given in to the bullying and opportunism of these horrible men, stopped attacking the hateful anti-woman hip-hop culture (that is at its UGLIEST against Black women)as divisive and racist.
So whatever you want to do I’m your soldier.
Senator McCain who gave so much to serve our country, and the females who also gave up their lives from the Civil War to the War in Iraq they serve. “Gave Up” their life so others could live in freedom. Whom ever wears the uniform who defended the United States of America from the most diverse LGBT community, to the Buffalo Soldiers, The WACS, and the like…
“We Commend You”
Just checking in for a moment and then have to take mom to visit my dad’s sister for the evening.
First, my nose SEEMS to be ok despite breaking the rules accidentally and blowing it last night. I’m seeing the “nose dr” tomorrow morning, LOL.
Secondly, a question… where ON EARTH are they finding all those nut-jobs who are -supposedly- voting for that idiot Franken????? Between if they succeed in- quite literally- stealing this and giving it to Franken against the will of the people, and what’s happening in Georgia, it looks like the dem party will do ANYTHING to get their “super majority”. What it is about the word “super” that the dem leadership seems so stuck on? “super delegates” “super majority”… I’m sorry, but I don’t think the current dem leadership is too very “super” themself….
GOOD NEWS: Senator Stevens of Alaska has been indicted and Governor Palin gets to appoint a Senator in Stevens place. Palin can appoint HERSELF. Wouldn’t that be ironic. Oh, how I wish she would do that. Obama watch out!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If she can appoint herself quickly then she will have seniority over all the new senators even if it were one day that extra really counts big time.
Go Senator Sarah Go//
========
Or she could appoint Todd.
But either one means moving to DC. Ugh!
